Title: Where to take a deer?
Post by: zebra on November 23, 2014, 02:03:39 PM
Any suggestions where to take my little doe to be processed? Really want my own deer back. Ideas?

Where are you located?  In Lincoln Schuster's out on about 90th & Cornhusker does a good job.

Have always had good luck at Panama...southeast of Lincoln.  Went there again this year because of convenience.

Virg's out on West Van Dorn (Lincoln) is/was my long time favorite place, though I'm not sure if he is still in business.   Found the old website... http://www.virgssausage.com/main/ (http://www.virgssausage.com/main/)

I'm in the Omaha area, but I'm willing to travel a bit if needed. :)

Your kitchen table??

Only very very rarely will you NOT get your own critter back when doing your own  :P

But seriously, it NOT hard to process your own deer, a bit time consuming, but not difficult

I did all the boning out already, I even burgered a bunch of it, I just need someone to take that stuff and and return jerky and summer sausage.

I am not sure you will be able to find a place that will guarantee your own meat back in jerky and sausage.

They tend to make big batches to and return the proper poundage to the customers.

I know Schusters will, but I don't know if they will take meat that is already boned out.

If you've already gone to the work of boning it, you might consider buying a meat grinder.  Making your own sausage isn't too hard, but you'll want a good sausage stuffer.  I never had good luck with the ones that just go on the end of the meat grinder, so I bought a dedicated LEM stuffer.  It's awesome.

Yup, I was going to say the same.  Stoysich is another option.  They've done some wild hogs for me.  Excellent work!
