Cole Hodson bagged the biggest deer of his young life recently, using a rifle system rigged up by friends. Mark Jackson/Burt County Plaindealer

Cole Hodson's life changed forever June 26 when he was paralyzed from the chest down after suffering a spinal cord injury while swimming at a farm pond near Pilger.

The 18-year-old Herman man got a little of life back recently. Hunting on John Tyson's property west of Herman Nov. 21, Hodson took down a nine-point buck.

Hodson said he has hunted his whole life and acknowledged that this season meant more than most, but not because he bagged the biggest deer of his hunting career.

"It didn't matter if I even took a shot," he said of his hunting trip. "It's just good to know I can get out and do things."
