I was looking around on The Firing Line forum and found what I thought was a very informative post which reviewed quite a few gun care products plus some non-gun products that others have claimed to use.
Results of gun care product evaluation (http://thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=546316)
This has reinforced my thoughts on trying Frog Lube.

a very long result, but he is all over the board, he compares penetrants, with lubes. they are not meant to do the same thing!

But many people DO use a particular product for everything, even though that is not their intended purpose. (Many people think "oil" means "lube and protectant.") As such, for lots of people, the results of this sort of thing are indeed useful.
(And some of the ones he tests are indeed both for lubrication and protection.)
Overall, a useful set of tests that hopefully will get people thinking. Or not. :)

I'm not surprised by seeing Frog Lube at the top end of these tests. I use it and am impressed with how easy it is to clean a gun that has been previously treated....amazing stuff. Regardless of what one chooses to use on their own guns, the information provided is useful. Thanks for posting.

Oil does four things Lubricates, Cleanses, Cools and Protects.

Well...yes, but that is more of the function of oil in an engine. With a gun, there is no system to carry away the oil, filter it, cool it, and then return it to absorb more heat and carbon. In the sense that oil lubricates, and lubrication reduces friction, resulting in less heat generated, then I suppose it could be argued that it has some cooling benefits.

jthhapkido beat me to it. I don't think the point was to necessarily say he was comparing like products. He was just comparing products that people claim do the same job.

Precisely.
