Title: NFOA AR15 (AKA "Evil Black Rifle") Picture Thread
Post by: SeanN on January 25, 2011, 11:42:43 AM
If you guys want to make this thread "official" and sticky it or something, I'm totally cool with that.  :D

Please keep this thread full of pictures. It's nice to hear compliments on your rifles but post a picture if you want to comment, even if it isn't yours. Please do say it isn't your's though!

I'll kick it off... Not the best quality pictures but they get the job done. I've got two carbines so far, I may need to add a Special Purpose Rifle type longer-range build in the future or maybe an AR10-type. Erm, I mean, I *had* two carbines before that awful boating accident.  :angry9:

First is my Bushmaster gas piston based on the Patriot Ordnance Factory (POF) piston system:

Second is my BCM 14.5" SOCOM upper with Spike's Tactical complete self-assembled (bought their LPK):

I'll play....

Here's my first AR that I built for 3-gun.  I usually run it with an A2 stock, but I just built a new lower and had to stick my upper on it to see how it looked.  It has an 18" White Oak SPR barrel, BCM bolt carrier group and upper receiver, Midwest Industries handguard, Matech rear sight and YHM front sight/gas block.  Yes, it's a mutt but it's a good shooter.

Here's a mockup of my current project that I built the lower for.  It's going to be a 12.5" 6.8 SPC once I get my stamp back from the ATF.  It will have a carbine length gas system, but midlength handguard.  The gas block near the muzzle will be for a front sight only.

Working on rounding out my collection of other types of firearms, then I'll be back to the black rifles. Liking the looks of the 300 AAC Blackout very much...

Robert, what type of folding front sight do you have on that i'm thinking about a midwest indust one the mabuis one are polymier and suggest not to put one of those on the gas block. I was at scheels and they had a promag one but its design was more like n-star folding and I am not opposed to the n-star but if I get the n-star it was 50.00 cheaper than the promag at 70.00.

the folding sights are the troy industries.  they come standard on the M&P15T.  i like them.  they were very accurate every time i used them.  the only bad thing is the eye relief is pretty short on the ACOG so, i can't pull up the rear sight without taking the ACOG off.

ive tried a few NC Star stuff and i didn't like the stuff.  i would invest some money into sights since that what you use to aim your gun.  guns are useless if you can't aim!

Awesome EBRs so far fellas!!!

Here is my contribution, first is my BCM 16" middy, my newest rifle  (see my thread below).  Its got a Magpul rear flip up sight, Eotech 512, CTR buttstock, and MS2 sling.  It's on a RRA lower built with a Daniel Defense LPK.  I think I'm gonna put on DD Omega 9 rail and be done (I swear).  Sweet shooter with the mid length gas system.  Love this gun.

Next up is my first EBR.  Its a DPMS 16" A2 style carbine with a cheap set of rails and a Magpul MOE buttstock.  Still a sweet shooter but not as smooth as the BCM.

Both guns have been 100% reliable without a single hiccup.   BRING ON THE ZOMBIES!!!!

Thanks Robert,
I just as well buy the midwest indus one they are 80.00 and the yhm are around the same range good to know just as well buy the good ones first then won't have a problem will look into the troy ones as well.

Rich, how do you like that Battle Comp?  I'm thinking of getting one for my 6.8 build.

I *love* the battle comp. Very fun muzzle device. Follow-up shots feel so much quicker and it made both my carbines a lot more enjoyable to shoot.

I don't mean to go off topic, but I had to comment on the Battlecomp.  It is a great comp, just a bit too loud for me.  Are you looking for one?  If so, I am looking to unload one...  :)

Here's my 3 gun rifle temporarily reconfigured for an upcoming Prairie Dog hunt:

Not too bad for an autoloader.  Just under 1" center to center at 100 yards:

Sweet rifles!

Whats with the long FH on the SBR?  Is that so you have an SBR without actually having to go through the NFA hoops?  I remember some manufacturer doing that in the past (bushmaster maybe?)

Either way some good looking weapons, whats the build on the 16"?

Also placeholder for pics coming soon of my new blaster :)

ETA: PICS!!!

My new DDM4 upper.

Its a Daniel Defense upper with their 12" free float omega rail over a mid length gas system.  Sweet shooter and incredibly smooth.  Also very light for having such long rails on it.

Upper is on an Ardel Engineering lower that I built up with a Daniel Defense LPK.  Nice lowers for a sweet price.

About my SBR and her flash suppressor:

It's actually not any longer, its the AAC Blackout with the MITER mount, the MITER mount is for their SPR/M4 suppressor.  The majority of the system fits over the barrel, something like 2.5" back, and the Blackout flash hider itself is the only part that is forward of the barrel.

http://advanced-armament.com/product.aspx?pid=630 (http://advanced-armament.com/product.aspx?pid=630)

My 16" was originally an M&P15, had Carl Jarl's in Omaha take off the carbine front sight base, then install a low profile gas block and a 12.0 DD Lite rail.  The M&P15 lower is actually my registered SBR, so I split the original rifle up.  The lower for the 16" is a Palmetto State Armory lower (currently less than $60, completely mil-spec) with a Spike's Tactical enhanced Nickel Boron lower parts kit.  Extremely tight rifle, 0 wobble between the upper and lower, and the UBR stock is as solid as I've ever felt.  The rifle is heavy, that's no joke, but she shoots well.  And the Trijicon TA33G-H 3x ACOG is outstanding, highly recommend it.
