I've got guns and ammo and am ready to fire.

Wait a minute, a classifier that doesn't involve grovelling, I mean shooting, on your belly?  What's up with this :o

Hey, it is only 7 yards away.  NO PROBLEM!

Everyone should come out to this match---we are going to spend almost every stage doing the things your parents told you never to do:  run with scissors, stick a fork in a power outlet...all those types of fun things.

:)

See you tomorrow at the range!

MOPP Level 4 would be recommended. Good prep for the Zombie match.

And I thought you were kidding. :)

If anybody has video of the cart stage please post, I promised my son I would get some of me shooting and failed to do so.

Um, well, I can post SOMEONE shooting that stage.  Unfortunately, not YOU shooting that stage.  :(

I'll post a video later today, if I can get one put together.  In the meantime, results are up!

(And yes, I zeroed a stage.  Yay me!  Oh wait, that's bad...)

Well, here's some video of someone shooting the match.

Couldn't stick a reload to save my life, and two jams didn't help.  And, you know, zeroing the classifier wasn't great, either.  But the cart stage went well!

No one ever needs to see that.

Thanks for posting the video of that dude on the cart though, both kids always ask what these matches are about.

They are about DRIVE-BY SHOOTINGS!

Um.  Well, maybe not.

I need to work on my drive-by skills.  I'm thinking next time I'll have to try it with my gat held sideways.

The drive-by was actually my best stage of the day. Guess I'm ready for my neighborhood now  ;D.

I had a blast at this match. All of the stages were fairly simple, I thought. Driving and shooting was awesome.

Anyone think that we should have a multi-gun rifle stage with a driving portion on the 100 yard range?

I have an idea for designing the stage if it is something we could actually do.

I had a blast at this match. All of the stages were fairly simple, I thought. Driving and shooting was awesome.

Hm.  Actually, I thought that all but stage 2 was straightforward (in that there were no questions about how to shoot them) but that all stages but 2 were not easy in terms of getting good hits at speed.  In every single case, there were shots that required quite a bit of care.

And stage 2 was interesting, because as a Production shooter I could think of 3 different ways to shoot it effectively. (If I were in Open or Limited, that would probably have turned into 1 or 2 different ways.)  Which of those three to pick---really depended on the specific shooting strengths of the competitor.

(By the way---when are you going to join USPSA?  Sheesh!  Among other things, it'll give you a breakdown of your times/points/etc for each stage, and you also can see how you stood relative to the people in your division, as opposed to compared to everyone in the match.)

For example---I don't think stage 4 was simple.  Straightforward, yes---but certainly not simple, particularly since the person who did BEST on that stage at our match (which certainly wasn't me) still only got a barely-B-class hit factor nationally.  And 13 people zeroed the stage.  :/

So, maybe it is a simple/easy/straightforward semantics thing--but I find that in USPSA, simple does not mean easy!  And if you didn't get within 5% of the high score in your division on that stage, well, then...  After all, you aren't trying to beat the stage, you are trying to beat everyone else who shoots the stage.

Talk to Tom Engel--I know a couple of people have already said that this would be a completely fun time.

I just signed up for USPSA after reading your post.  :)

What is the best way to get in touch with Tom? I'll be happy to design a stage.

I agree with you. I should be more specific in what I meant by simple (since thankfully no one can ready my thoughts...except for maybe the NSA) - I found it easy to put a plan together for each stage. At the last match I attended, I had a difficult time putting together a plan, remembering it, and executing it.

Excellent!  Make sure to tell Julie your number as soon as you get it--that way we can make sure that your last classifier (that you shot yesterday) counts for you.

Ah.  That makes more sense to me--and I agree that most of the stages were very straightforward that way.   Being able to come up with good solid plans (and then not forgetting them once the timer goes off) is an important skill in USPSA, most certainly.

How'd you run stage 2?  That's the one where I thought several different plans were all possible, depending on the shooter's specific strengths.

So how did you, probably the best pistol shooter in the state, zero a classifier ?:o

How did you get a U classification with all the matches you've shot?? ???

My unsolicited break down of stage 2.

First, I only fully mapped out two ways to shoot it.

I got sucked into moving left, for some reason I had it in my head I had to get at least 3 targets from there, so might as well take a extra step on see if I could get 2 more before I had to reload on my way to the right and get 5 more. I think this really cost some time.

On the right I wanted to pick three targets, the obvious two, plus the one real tight to the wall. Now reload to the gap on the left pick up two and finish the last three from there.

I get a little hung up on shooting from positions and minimizing reloads, ie, I have to go here so how many targets can I engage before I move to point B because I want a full mag when I get there.  (not saying I am adverse to reloading when I have to move, this stage I figured I need no more than two).

So how did you, probably the best pistol shooter in the state, zero a classifier ?:o

I don't think I'd claim that title.  And I _certainly_ wouldn't claim it based on my shooting yesterday!

No, I completely blew the classifier.  It was a 6-round virginia count stage, which means---ONLY six rounds.  No makeup shots. Three targets, two rounds each---two targets were mostly no-shoot, the other was a headshot-only target due to hardcover.

Massive amounts of room for complete and utter failure, which I completely proceeded to do.  In my defense (look, here comes the excuses!) my support arm is damaged plus I'm an idiot.

Oh wait, that last part isn't much of an excuse.

I simply went too fast and pulled two misses.  That's enough to zero the stage.  I drew, pulled the trigger saying to myself "Why am I doing this, the sights aren't on target?" put the second one on the target, put two in the middle head, then transitioned to the third target and pulled the trigger as I said to myself "Why are you pulling the trigger, your gun isn't to the target yet!" and then put the last shot on the target.

So:  18 points (from four hits, which means I actually got three A-hits and only one B-hit on all headshots where I actually hit the head) minus 20 points for the two mikes.  So, ZERO.

Along with my 12 new friends who did the same.  We were all idiots---the people who succeeded on that stage didn't try to rush, they simply took the time to get good hits.

Slow but NON-ZERO oddly enough does better.

Clerical error.  My USPSA number got dropped out at registration somehow, so no classification.  It is being fixed, which will be a mixed blessing---I'll get to see my stats from the match, but at the same time I'll have my first ever 0% listing in my classification stats.

Yay.

Ah well.  I suppose it had to happen sometime.  Of course, right before I head off to Nationals isn't really the best time to tank stages...
