Title: Interaction with KS State Trooper While Carrying
Post by: patrickdm on October 11, 2013, 10:59:48 PM
I was riding down highway 77 through Kansas today on my bike. Had the headphones on, traffic was real light, sunny, just the right temps and just enjoying life. Then I notice the red lights flashing in my mirrors. Uh oh. The speed limit was 65 and I may have been exceeding that slightly. Slightly  :D So I pull over and start taking off stuff--gloves, helmet, ear buds. I can see the cop standing just behind me to my right. He comes over to my left and says he's been following me with lights on for about two miles. Oh man this isn't going to go well. So the first thing I say is so sorry about that then I tell him I have a CHP and I am carrying.  He asks what and I say blah blah .45 semi auto. He asks for my drivers license, looks at it then I ask if he wants the CHP too. Yep so I give it to him. He asks where the gun is and I tell him right hip. He looks at me and said how about we just leave it right where it's at? Sounds good to me, like I'm going to argue. We go through the usual questions, where you coming from/going/why the hurry. From Omaha to Ft Riley I'm late getting to the Post to escort some wounded warriors up to UNL for the game on Saturday. I have on an American Legion Riders vest and have an American and POW flag flying on my bike. He tells me to just sit still and he'll be right back. I do and he does. He hands me a warning, no ticket. Thanks me for doing the escort thing then makes a point of thanking me again for telling him about the permit and the concealed gun. Then he sticks out his hand to shake mine. I apologized to him for the speed and not seeing him sooner and I thank him profusely for the warning and shake his hand just as vigorously as I can. My first experience, and hopefully last, with the police while carrying. It couldn't have gone any better.

That is totally unexpected and great at the same time. Be nice it all the cops were that way.

every time i have been stopped, the officer/tropper always says "you told me, if you didn't, then i would be worried."

On a more important note:
THANK YOU! patrickdm for going on that WW Escort. (I just could not make it work this time around.  :(  )
What an Honor it must have been to escort our Wounded Heroes.

NE Bull I wish I could accept that thank you. I was unable to locate the group at Ft Riley to ride back with them. 100% my fault.
