Second-to-last Multigun match of the year!
Eastern Nebraska Gun Club, Nov 17th. Registration opens at 7:15, closes at 8:40. (If you are sharing equipment or have squad requests make sure to get there considerably BEFORE 8:40, otherwise we can't promise it will happen.) Safety briefing/new shooter meeting at 8:45, shooter's meeting at 9am, and lots of loud banging noises thereafter. :)
Four stages using various combinations of pistol, shotgun, and rifle, and make sure you know where your rifle is sighted from 5 yards out to 100 yards.
Shotgun: lead birdshot, no larger than 7.5, target loads.
As always, divisions are Limited, Tactical, Open, Heavy Metal Tactical, and Heavy Metal Irons. (Per USPSA rules). A single non-magnified dot is allowed on the rifle if you want to stay play in the Limited division. Any magnification, and you move to Tactical. If you've got a comp or a dot on your shotgun or pistol, OR if your shotgun takes a magazine or speedloaders, OR if your rifle has more than one optic on it---then you are in Open.
Heavy Metal is for those guys who like to shoot .308 and Major pistol. :)

I have a wife, two children, three dogs, and a cat that think it is necessary to eat EVERY day of their lives. I don't know where they got that silly idea, but apparently it is neglect if I don't feed them.

People are picky about the weirdest things, aren't they?
You COULD, you know, simply borrow one from someone shooting the match on your squad. Just a thought.

Borrowing someone else's equipment feels like borrowing their underwear. Kind of a personal thing, at least to me. I'm also worried about what I might do to someones firearm. It would be just my luck to trip and do an imitation of a pole vaulter (with a really short pole) and bend the barrel.
You are welcome to use mine, maybe you could show me how to use the thing.

You can make pretty much anything work....that being said, if you are going to buy something specifically for multigun, of primary importance is a tube capable of holding 8 shells (plus one in the chamber giving you the max of nine at the start signal). Semi-autos are easier to shoot quickly than pumpguns, too.
Probably the simplest ready-out-of-the-box shotgun for Multigun right now is the Mossberg 930 JM Pro. (If money is no object, then buy a Benelli from Taran Tactical and make everyone else jealous.) Lots of us have the JM Pro, and it works great.
That being said, when I started I used an 18" Remington 870 with an extended tube, and did perfectly well in Limited division.
With shotgun, the ability to load quickly is what tends to separate the really good competitors from the rest of us.

I started with a 930jm pro and it was great. I just replaced it with a Beretta 1301 and it's much nicer IMO. all it needed was a tube. my 930 needed lifter work to keep my thumb in tact and needs to be cleaned much more often.
also, I prefer a longer tube. you can only have 9 at the start, but if you have a tube that holds 11, you can drop an extra 2 in right as you start. makes it nice for stages that don't allow one in the chamber.

I will be bringing out the pawn shop special I picked up, unfortunately it is only 7+1 but it was dirt cheap. Probably beats out the goose gun I was previously planning on using.

That was fun, a lot of fun. Really, I never had must interest with shotgun, mix in a few ports and a timer, voilà, now you have my interest. :D
I am going to have to find a better way to carry gear though, I left a trail of ammo and mags on every stage, otherwise I will have to dummy cord everything to my belt.
Again, it was fun to come out shoot the match, see what it was all about, and chat with some shooters about the sport.
(Clean those guns, and come out and shoot it too!)
