Title: GRIP ACT -- Senator Johanns
Post by: DenmanShooter on March 12, 2014, 07:04:11 PM
Has anyone heard of this?

Email from Senator Johanns

Senator Johanns e-Update
March 12, 2014
I cosponsored legislation this week to prevent the creation of a national gun registry. The Gun-Owner Registration Information Protection Act, or GRIP Act, clarifies existing law that bars the federal government from storing information acquired during the firearms background check process.

I’ve been a long-time advocate for responsible gun ownership and responsible gun laws. This legislation helps meet both of those goals and does nothing to already required background checks. It does, however, say the government cannot infringe on your constitutional rights by writing your name on the board every time you exercise your Second Amendment rights.

The GRIP Act also ensures that states and local entities that benefit from federal grant programs do not use that funding to create or support full or partial registries of firearms information.

I got the same email. The last few times I've corresponded with Sen. Johanns he has been vague regarding his stance, I think the approaching election season might have gotten the lead out. So to speak.

First of all, I was under the impression Congress had already established the background check system was NOT to be used to STORE information.  So the dept of injustice would already be in violation if it was doing so.

Apparently I was incorrect?

What kind of teeth would this have if it even made it passed the senate and onto the executive's desk and he actually signed it?

It was reported Tuesday on ammoland  and Cam and Co reported on it too.  ;D

This one would also stop any Federal funds used by state or local government offices and not just the national uses
