No offense DaveB, but you make this assinine misinformed comment why??? Having been assigned to NAS JAX at the time (where the east coast P3 folks hang out.... and yes I know his plane was the EP3, but they're roughly all the same squadrons/missions....) and knowing many of the pilots personally (heck my girlfriend at the time was one), I can assure you Shane and his crew acted admirably and HE handed over nothing. The plane was scuttled as much as possible (in while inverted and headed to earth at terminal velocity (SFG and jthapkido can 'splain that to you) and our (you and me) GOVERNMENT left what was left over. There were no "secrets" divulged.
Do I think this makes him worthy or qualified for the office of a United States Senator .... meh..... I'm on the fence on that decision..... military hero does not equal quality elected official ref. J. McCain (AZ)

I make this comment because the national security of this country was at stake. he could just as well have put the plane in the water and still survived rather than allowing China to go through and pick out all they wanted.
I was not there, so I am not going to say there were no secrets divulged, and I'm sure the Chinese aren't going to say much either.
Because of this, I am not going to count him out, but he is not the one I would vote for at this time either. If it comes to it like it did for McCain, I am afraid I will have no choice in the matter.
Just because you were in the Navy does not make my comment asinine, but I thank you all the same for your service. Like you, Shane, and myself, we all swore an oath to protect this country from the enemy, and that also meant dying if necessary. I would much rather be remembered as someone who did what was necessary than saving my ass to be a decorated politician.

I am looking at all of the candidates and am not pro or con on Osborne. Do you have any reason other than not liking his actions as a navy pilot? Gun rights stance, Obama care, that sort of thing. Right now I really don't know that much about him other than he has served in the military.

Wildgoose, I met him at our monthly breakfast last month, and he's pro 2A, conservative, don't like Obamacare (wants to repel it).
Maybe the other people who was sitting by him could expand.
Have a hard time hearing when more than one conversation is going at one time. Part of my disability.

Since I got us off topic a little.....recovering an inverted EP3 is pretty darn amazing in my book....and I doubt they would have survived an impact with the South China Sea. Furthermore, he had an obligation as the plane "Captain" to keep his crew from harm by all means reasonable, possible and necessary (which he did and was subsequently awarded the Navy Cross). If you feel (not saying necessarily you do) that "dying if necessary" was apropos in this situation I refer you to the famous quote.... "No bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country." - Gen G.S. Patton ...which by the way the ChiComs lost a pilot that day..... and again this is NOT an endorsement for Osborne nor an influence on my decision to vote or not vote for him.

As a retired Navy Intelligence Specialist, I followed this story as it unfolded pretty intensely. For those that don't remember once on the ground he held the Chinese at bay, often with a gun pointed at his face while the crew destroyed the classified equipment and crypto, any one with an ounce of sense knows that what this man did was nothing short of heroic... Thinking any less, shows your a low information voter...

That would be Osborn (no "e") and with all due respect to Coach, the people of Nebraska were intelligent enough to go with the current Gov.... (and why Bruning will not get "H's" endorsement....

I don't have a good feeling about Osborn, and I do trust my gut. Ben Sasse is one of his opponents that I do like. He doesn't have a military background, which I would prefer, but he does feel right to my gut. I have been around Sasse twice, and both times he came off as down home, smart and sincere. As all will, he claims to be pro 2A. I put his sticker on my car, first time I have ever put any candidate's sticker on any vehicle i have owned.

My only "concern" with Sasse is his previous exposure to the "Potomac Virus" i.e. was a member of POTUS 43s administration (for disclosure I like G.W. Bush and I think history will prove he was a great Prez).... but my point is I worry about Sasse being an "establishment" Repubican (sic), but like him otherwise.....

I am not so sure that Sasse was part of 43's staff. My impression is that he was hired as a contractor to do some IT type stuff, and left when the job was finished.
Need more investigation thou.

Been doing some research on Sasse and Osborn.
Sasse hasn't spent that much time in NE, did a lot of DC and lived in Texas until recently.

Both are politicians, just getting the facts out so you can make an informed decision.

Shane is the only R candidate that I have not heard speak in person.
I suggest everyone also take a good look at Bart McLeay and Sid Dinsdale. They both seem to be good candidates as well, and I like what I've heard from both.
Clifton Johnson is pretty much an unknown from Ft. Calhoun that has been shut out of the debates and will be lucky to get 1% in the primaries.
Sasse is a very good public speaker. Smooth and doesn't fumble looking for words and for sure would be a strong debater in the Senate chamber. He also has spent a lot of time in DC already, and that's a -1 for me.
Osborne... Meh. Seems like a nice enough guy and did good work in Nebraska as Treasurer, but I'm not convinced as of yet that he's best choice for the US Senate.
It seems to me that all of the top 4 candidates are qualified and capable of doing the right thing in DC for Nebraska's gun owners, should they be elected. It's nice to have a good crop of candidates for both this race, and for Governor.

Supporting Sid Dinsdale. Very strong Nebraska roots. Strong business person, community banker and has deep Ag experience. Not a politician and won't be able to be bought. Thought I saw he is the one with the most money raised by Nebraskans and not outsiders. Heard him speak at a forum of Veterans that were supporting him where he said he was a gun guy.

I have spoken in person and on the phone with the top 4 candidates, and as Rick has said none of these would be detrimental to our Second Amendment rights. Because of my involvement with the NFOA-PAF I can not say who I support (it is state only) but be assured they are all speaking with the NFOA and I am fairly certain that is a door that will remain open to us once whomever is elected.
It is a good thing that we can have so many good candidates to consider!

I like both Sid and Bart. Unfortunately, they've spent their lives in the private sector and don't have the connections built up with the DC groups that give lots of money or the name recognition that comes from holding a lower political office.
