I stopped at the ammo counter at Walmart (that in itself is not a surprise). I noticed shot shells in the glass case. I was giving the associate some grief about being sneaky and making it look full from a distance by stuffing all the shot shells in there.
He proceeded to tell me that they were recently "Informed" of a 1996 (or '97) city ordinance that said ALL AMMO is to be displayed behind lock and key. :o He figured somebody peed the wrong person off. ( It smells of the work of some anti gun lib on a powertrip, but that's just me.)
As he stated, I'm really interested in seeing how Scheel's deals with that- All their Shotshells and Rifle Ammo are on open shelves.
(I will have to do a little digging and see if I can come up with that ordinance. Unless one of our more astute members can find it first.

Found it!
9.36.025 Firearms Offered for Sale at Retail; Access Restricted.
It shall be unlawful for any person to display for sale at retail any firearm or firearms, or any

ammunition for firearms or reloading components thereof, being secured so as to cause them to be

So Scheels in violation with guns and ammo?
-
and NE Gun and Acher Arms???
what is the point of this statute/law/thing?
-
My guess is the 'powers that be' think it will keep criminals from walking in and shoplifting ammunition? Seems like a pain for normal shooters more than anything.
-
Note the ordinance covers reloading components too. I can't think of a single retailer that is in full compliance with this crap... And they think that a few signs on the door are too much of a burden to place on a business owner

Wow!! I thought Obamaha had some really stupid laws... :o

don't forget Lincoln's no gun in a car for 24 hour rule.
-
DE might be one of the few places that I have been in that might be compliant I am not sure if that is by choice or the fact that they have every available inch filled! ... I have not been up the stairs much though so the might have some stuff up top.

Narrow point: the Lincoln prohibition is on a firearm being left in an unattended motor vehicle for more than 24 hours. The ordinance does not prohibit leaving a firearm in a car for more than 24 hours unless the car will be ungaraged _and_ unattended for 24 hours.
If the car in question is kept in a "locked enclosure or building," the ordinance does not prohibit storage of a firearm in that vehicle, even for more than 24 hours.

I remember when Target and Shopko had ammo out on the shelf. It was two isles down from the toys. You could also smoke in the store.

Well, good thing that it's not a "person" displaying for sale, but a "company", right!? :) cause we all know that according to libs that companies are not people...
