WASHINGTON ? The Census Bureau on Friday severed its ties with ACORN, a community organization that has been hit with Republican accusations of voter-registration fraud.

"We do not come to this decision lightly," Census director Robert Groves wrote in a letter to ACORN, which was obtained by The Associated Press.

Glenn is the only one in the media with the stones to bring this to the public's attention.
Most other media outlets haven't even covered the videos that were released with the help of Mr. Beck.
He is getting people motivated.  I highly doubt there would have been 1.5 to 2 million people in D.C. yesterday without him.

Glenn Beck may be leading the charge, but, Its america that is acting on it. One man yelling can't do much but its the rest of America waking up and paying attention that's getting this stuff done.

Jim, he may have inspired you but I don't think it was him putting the money behind the trip and making the decision for you to go.

So, WAY TO GO RIGHT WING EXTREMISTS!!!

Supposedly the amendment passed at 83 to 7 need to find out who the 7 cronies are and give them the boot first.

From Fox News.

The Senate voted to cut off ACORN Housing funds following the release of three videotapes that show employees of the activist group advising a "pimp" and "prostitute" on how to break the law.

The amendment, offered by Nebraska Republican Sen. Mike Johanns, passed in a vote of 83 to 7 and prohibits the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now from receiving funds from the current Transportation and Housing and Urban Development appropriations bill. It marks the third time this year Republicans tried to block the organization from federal funding.

The latest vote comes on the heels of the release of hidden-camera videos showing workers in three separate ACORN housing offices apparently helping a couple posing as a pimp and prostitute evade the IRS and apply for an illegal housing loan for a brothel.

ACORN Housing Corporation received $1.6 million to provide housing services to low-income communities in this fiscal year, ending Sept. 30, according to USASpending.gov, a federal government Web site for tracking government grants.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development Grants has given $8.2 million to ACORN in the years between 2003 and 2006, as well as $1.6 million to ACORN affiliates.

It wasn't immediately clear whether the offices shown in the videos had received any of ACORN's federal grant money for housing services.

Like this quote from Omaha World Heald:

Johanns called for a Justice Department investigation into ACORN and said he was determined to prevent the organization from receiving further federal funding until it has stopped its improper activities.

?We will pursue ACORN wherever they get a dime of taxpayer money,? Johanns said.

In todays edition talking about the ammendment passing.

More acorn news from john stewart who spent 6 minutes or so (good chunk of his 23 minute show) on the subject:

What I like more than the fact that he poked fun at ACORN was that he *****ed out the mainstream media outlets for not reporting on it at ALL.  Makes me mad just to type that! Go watch tho it is worth your 6 minutes.

ACORN says workers conduct 'indefensible'
Suspends, plans audit, in wake of videos

UPDATED:

ACORN, calling the actions of some of its employees "indefensible," has suspended advising new clients as part of its service programs and is setting up an independent review to see what happened.

ACORN chief executive Bertha Lewis said in a written statement that she was "ordering a halt to any new intakes into ACORN's service programs until completion of an independent review."

The actions were taken, she said, "as a result of indefensible action of a handful of our employees."

Videos of ACORN workers giving tax advice to people posing as prostitutes and other revelations have led to growing criticism of the organization in recent days.

Lewis continued: "We have all been deeply disturbed by what we've seen in some of these videos. I must say, on behalf of ACORN's Board and our Advisory Council, that we will go to whatever lengths necessary to reestablish the public trust. For nearly forty years, ACORN has given voice to communities, and gotten results. Right now, our nearly 500,000 member are working their hearts out for quality, affordable healthcare for every American and to help stop the foreclosure crisis. We must get this process right, so the good work can go forward."

ACORN, an advocacy group, has fired at least four employees after hidden camera videos showed the group's workers giving financial advice to women posing as prostitutes. The firings occurred in the group's Washington and Baltimore offices.

ACORN has been targeted for years by conservative groups that consider it a sometimes unsavory arm of Democratic electoral politics. The Senate voted earlier this week to deny funding to the organization to help with the next census.

ACORN stands for the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now. It advocates for poor people. It conducted a large voter registration effort last year and some employees were accused of submitting false registration forms with names such as "Mickey Mouse." ACORN has said only a handful of employees submitted false registration forms.

The first videotape was made public on a political blog, BigGovernment.com.

In her statement, Lewis said "no new intakes will be accepted into ACORN's offices for service programs, effective immediately."

She also said the group would begin "immediate in-service training for all frontline staff."

In addition, she said, "ACORN's independent Advisory Council will help select an independent auditor/reviewer no later than September 18th to review all of the systems and processes called into question by the videos."

In early 2009, ACORN set up an independent Advisory Council to help put together a new management team under Lewis. Lewis was appointed to the job in the fall of 2008 after disclosure of a set of improper management decisions by the founder of the organization.

The Advisory Council includes John Podesta, president of the liberal Center for American Progress; Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, a former lieutenant governor of Maryland; Andrew Stern, international president of Service Employees International Union; Henry Cisneros, a former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development; John Banks, vice president of Government Relations Con Ed; and Eric Eve, senior vice president of Global Consumer Group, Community Relations, of Citigroup.

That advisory council doesn't seem very "independent" to me.  ::)

I don't see any thing more than a publicity stunt. That would be like the IRS telling me, "Well, you are getting audited so pick yourself an auditer" UHHHHH, I pick me. And 13 other small business owners like me. That wouldn't fly for us. That shouldn't fly for anyone else. I say this is something that SHOULD fall under the FBI's authority since it is nationwide.

I am afraid that what is going to happen is they are going to shut down "acorn" and reopen as the same .org under a different name. Close them down and put those that deserve it in jail.

Great job Mr. Johanns. He is stepping it up a notch.
We should all call and tell him thank you.
