Title: I won at the Grand Island GSSF match!
Post by: OnTheFly on July 08, 2014, 05:20:02 PM
Ok...I didn't rank that well, but I DID win a Glock in the "New Member" drawing.  It will look nice next to my KL-1.  Though maybe I should sell it and get the KL-2.  Hmmmm...decisions, decisions.

Congratulations!  What model?

I believe Chris Z said most Gen 3 are free except for the long slides and .45s which have an "upgrade" fee.  Also, Gen 4s have an upgrade fee.  The upgrade fees don't look like much, so the gun is still a GREAT deal even if you pay a little.

I believe that the certificate will explain all of that when it arrives.

All standard full size, compact and subcompact 9mm, .40 or .357 models are free

Gen4's are a small upgrade fee

45/10mm are more

Longslides are even more

Congrats!!!!!!!

Pays to go to the Glock matches..... Even if you don't perform as best as you hope. Since I fell into the deep end (master class) two years ago.... I have yet to win a gun again.

4th place got me a gun on this match   :-)

This reminds me of a carp bowfishing tournament prize I heard about over on the Mississippi in eastern Iowa.

First place won an '84 Dodge Caravan.

Speaking of fishing, when they draw Chris Z's name, they should just say "He's got his limit" and draw another name.  How many Glocks does a man need?  Sheesh.

All a person REALLY needs is one Kilo Lima, but if we are talking Glocks...yeah, a person probably needs a few.

I haven't shot a glock yet. My dad recently purchased a 31C but I haven't been able to get to the range with him to shoot it. I have handled it briefly and it is a totally different fell then other pistols I have shot. I would like to spend some time shooting a Glock 19 or 34  and a M&P9 in one range visit. I like my SR9 but gamer parts are limited not that they are really needed...  ;D. but some are wanted.

My take on the Glock thing.  Many people, including myself, have the same reaction when they pick up a Glock.  It feels quite different than other handguns.  It doesn't seem to "fit like a glove" as others you might pick up.  Often the phrase "It just doesn't fit my hands" is uttered.  I have to say, after shooting a few Glocks, that it doesn't take much adjustment to shoot them, and shoot them to their potential.

I know that I initially wouldn't even go beyond the act of picking one up.  I couldn't get past how different they felt.  Now I've got a few hundred rounds through my Glock knock-off and I have to say I don't notice the difference anymore.  I was able to shoot it accurately (for me) right out of the box.

One thing I like about the Glocks is that their stock trigger is surprisingly good.  Whoa...whoa..whoa there folks.  Before you get your panties in a bunch, I didn't describe it as "smooth" or "light".  When I describe it as "good", I'm talking about the take-up, break, over-travel, and reset.  In these aspects, I would have to say it is not much different from my XDm's Ultimate Match Trigger from Powder River Precision.  I'm betting that the G34 trigger, which is lighter than most other Glocks, is even closer in feel to my XDm.

Sights are functional.  I've heard people warning of them breaking off because "they are plastic".  Others such as our in house Glock Guru, Chris Zeeb, says he just doesn't like the stock sights.  Personally, I like fiber optics, but the stock sights aren't bad.

I think Glock makes a very good gun.  I haven't witnessed a Glock Miracle yet, but I think it should live up to its "takes a licking, but keeps on ticking" reputation.
