NEBRASKA SPORTSMENS FOUNDATION 2ND ANNUAL FUNDRAISER

NEBull has suggested that I help organize an NFOA Trapshooting team for the above event, to be held as follows:

Lincoln Izaak Walton League [Lincoln Ike's]
10801 S. 134th Street
Bennett, NE

Sunday, 28 September 2014
1 - 5 PM

Cost is $30/Shooter.

We need five (5) trapshooters to make an NFOA squad. We have two (2) firm commitments; we need three (3) more to fill out the roster.

And I guess if we get over-subscribed, we can easily make up more NFOA teams. And if we get still more shooters, they can be worked in as individuals.

It's mostly about shooting, making noise, getting out, and having some fun.

If you actually hit something, fine. That's extra.

Any shotgun that shoots will work. Not sure how many rounds we'll shoot. I just got into this event and will check out the details shortly.

Equipment is simple: Any shotgun. Most folks use some kind of 12ga. X number of shells, to be determined. Protective glasses. Ear protection. I've got some extra belt bags for shells.

So...Let us know soon. Friday is the day to turn in Team Rosters.

If you have a buddy, drag him/her in, too. More fun that way.

There will be some NICE equipment there, but as SFG said its all in fun and support.

Now: Money has to be in this coming Friday. So--I will pay the $30/each for whomever is signed up by 12:00noon Friday, September 5 and get reimbursed by the team members at the trapshoot event on September 28.

It's OK to de-commit up to the deadline of 12:00noon Friday. But cancellations after that date still pay the $30. (Subs in your place will be OK, however.)

There are numerous ones as fundraisers around the state, heard tell tha Lee Terry for congress is working on one, I believe the Hastings College team hosts one as a fundraiser for their team (and with many more colleges getting involved expect many more will) and many other organizations etc. It would be good for the NFOA to be represented at these events and a good recruiting tool for the organization.

The above team roster has now been sent to Chris @ the Nebraska Sportsmen's Foundation in time to meet the early registration date and qualify for the $30 entry fee.

At some point perhaps Critter and NE Bull can call Chris at 402 805-4308 and provide to her (Chris is a her) their actual names of record to go on the squad list.

If I hear any more from Chris, I'll get the word out to all concerned.

I just started this game last year.
Went to the meat shoot just before Thanksgiving at PGC , had no idea of how or what the procedure was.
Got squaded with all high school shooters. These kids started at the 27 and 2 of them went to a shoot off that went 4 rounds.
Love seeing these kisds shoot, hopefully I'll have a grand kid or two in a couple years ready to pursue this sport.
No, I didn't win a Turkey.

Today was practice day for part of the Team: LeeM, Critter, & sfg.

LeeM is so close to his first 25-straight that he can shave with it. Shot his new Browning Crossover today. Now that shotgun is sweet. Nice and light. Points naturally. Seems to be a 1-size-fits-all shotgun.

Critter is a newby and looks like he's gonna be a Natural trapshooter. And skeet shooter, since his new shotgun works both ways.

sfg ran 25-straight today at practice; now to do it in competition.

I took the Crossover to Stephen this evening for the recoil pad, probably list the other one tomorrow, I agree, good shooting guns, recoil pad sucks.

INSTRUCTIONS FROM NSF TTT FOR TRAPSHOOT

The following information was received from Chris just now:

Thank you for registering for the Nebraska Sportsmen’s Foundation Team Trapshooting Tournament. We will do our very best to make this event run smoothly, and it will be helpful if your team will comply with the following instructions:

· Please arrive in plenty of time to check in at registration. Registration will be open 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. Leave your guns in your vehicle till you are about to shoot.

· ALL TEAM MEMBERS must attend a MANDATORY safety meeting at 12:45 pm before the first shot.

· Ear and eye protection are MANDATORY. Please bring your own safety equipment. Eye and ear protection can be purchased should you fail to bring your own.

· Bring your own ammunition as there are limited quantities and gauges for sale on site.

· Adult beverages will be available for purchase AFTER all shooting is complete.

No weapons allowed inside club house!

And SFG you are shooting as well as she does, and she has not shot since before school started. No place to keep the gun and supplies on campus after Ashford and Avery screwed with the laws. I will see if I can not get her a practice round or two this weekend.

Her choir is doing a concert in Lincoln Sunday night (school scheduled after she signed up) and the choir director has given her a 2:00 pm call time. So if she shot right at 1 in her dress and ran from the range to the church she might make it, possibly. So she is not going to be able to make it.

There are a couple of options, I could shoot in her place but not near as well (I'm a bird hunter and shoot a couple clays for practice not well). Or if there is someone else available that wants to shoot the spot would be open.

Note, further damaging my shooting ability my shotgun is in the shop getting an adjustment made and new recoil pad installed. So I would be shooting one of Briann's that I have shot before but am not that accustomed too.

Let's leave it up to PINK and/or you so that whoever She/You might pick should simply show up Sunday and say, "I'm taking PINK's place."

That way, various substitutions can be made up to the very last minute without having to work it out back and forth here on the Forum.

Post by: SemperFiGuy on September 28, 2014, 07:04:31 PM: The Final Five Intrepid Team NFOA members listed above showed up today, all ahead of time and in good form. We shot the full course of fire: a 16-yard round and then a Handicap round from the 22-yard line.

I didn't stay for the entire event to learn how we did in the overall standings, but that's not why we were there. Whatever the results, we did not embarrass ourselves nor NFOA.

Fun was had by all. Even the Ladies, who watched us shoot.

And....Thanks again to Critter, who was the Team NFOA sponsor.

What we have here, gentlemen, is a classic example of New Trapshooter's Way-Too-Early Self Analysis.

You won't think the same way after you've called "Pull" on about 5000 claybirds.

It just takes a while to get it all together and the only way to get it together is to shoot at a lot of birds, some of which you'll eventually start hitting.

Everyone I know--certainly, self included--blew a lot of holes in the sky before finally settling into the trapshooting game. (And after trap, there's...............skeet! And doubles.)

Let's go shoot some more!! It's the Friendly Addiction.

Post by: AAllen on September 29, 2014, 05:38:59 PM: SFG is right, one time out trap shooting is no reason to give up, it is good for the soul. I enjoy an occasional round, I also try skeet, and generally don't shoot what anyone would call great (65-85% depending upon the day). But a day spent outdoors, with some friends or family and a chance to put holes in the sky nothing better.

If nothing else it is great practice for bird hunting, you learn to mount the shotgun the same way every time, you learn how your tool works and where it hits (not certain try a patern board). Take your time and shot one, remember what it felt like then do it again if the gun does not feel the same as it did when you hit something is most likely off and you won't hit this time.
