well im starting to look around for LR308 stock options... basically a DPMS style 308 AR. i am building a 16" 308 AR that will be used for target shooting, maybe some hunting and maybe a Black Rifle Event at Ike's. i'm giving the Magpul PRS a serious looks, in grey, but since it will be used for hunting, maybe FDE would be better. oh well, color comes last. i prefer mil-spec tubes/sizes.
any opinions?
right now i'm thinking a Magpul PRS in grey, MOE+ grip in grey and a MI 308 SS free float rail.
(oh and after this is all done, i'll need to look at glass. ill most likely go to Primary Arms, but that will be in another thread at a later time.)

For a fixed stock I'm a fan of the plain old A2 or A1. Simple, rugged, and has storage capacity.
-
PRS or UBR on fixed, CTR for adjustable.

I have a PRS on one of my AR15s.
It's pretty darn heavy. Good for reducing felt recoil, bad for carrying around.
The new stationary MOE Rifle stock may suit your purpose better if you don't need an adjustable riser.

after i have looked around and wrote a few things down.... maybe the PRS is not a good choice if i want to lug it around hunting or carrying it in a comp. i kind of like the UBR and ACS. are there any other options besides Magpul?

Are ar15 stocks and ar10 stocks the same???
What about a ace fixed stock? Light rugged looks good.

yes and no. depends on what style. there's AR-10 which is Armalite then there is a DPMS style which is AR15 buffer tubes (comm and mil-spec) and DPMS GenII and maybe another one or two. there is no standard. you have to pick one and then you're stuck with it.... different sizes, thread patterns, etc.
DPMS LR-308 is probably the biggest supply of parts and accessories.

and i don't know if i want a fixed stock. if i'm wearing heavy clothes i think i will want to adjust the length, so i'm thinking adjustable.
also, there's a lot of weight with a 16" 308 barrel and handguard w/ SDN-6 hanging off the end. i will need something to counter the muzzle weight.

UBR might counter balance a little.

thats what i was thinking, but its expensive.
ETA: i think i'll have to should a few of these stocks before i make my purchase.

Black Rifle Shoot at the Ikes this weekend might be able to find on there.

If you are going with an AR-15 tube, etc, you might think about the Rogers Super Stoc (no, that isn't a typo :) ). http://www.rogersshootingschool.com/products/superstoc.php (http://www.rogersshootingschool.com/products/superstoc.php)
Tried one out when Rogers was first testing them---no slop or play at all in it, which is unheard of in an adjustable stock. (The Spartan version of it is good, too, and cheaper.)

stopped by DE today before work... held a couple of guns with different stocks. the PRS is heavy/bulky and i don't see it working out the way i thought it might, so thats out. i really liked the Magpul ACS stock, felt nice and was rock solid. the STR wasn't as solid, even after it was locked on the tube. i did look at an A2 stock, but i think i want adjustable. they did not have any guns with UBR's, but they did have one for sale. there's no rush, so i think i'll keep checking out stocks. if anyone has any suggestions, keep them coming.

I think Cruze Lauer has an UBR on his Black Rain, but he is in California until next week sometime.

I have a mp-10 with the moe, and a ar with the acs, you are welcome to try out the fit.
