at the Lincoln gun show I was talking with a couple of guys, who said someone is trying to set up a gun show in Ralston at the event center on 72nd street. its not in Omaha so shouldn't get the hassles, has anyone heard anything about this show?
-
That was my hair-brained idea. I checked the Ralston Arena's website and I don't think it's anywhere near large enough to hold a gun show.
Back to the drawing board... :(

I took the tour there before the grand opening. I thought it was pretty good size. About 4x's bigger than Millard (on each side). But that was a couple of years ago, so the brain could be malfunctioning.
How many tables are you looking at Rick?

4 times bigger than the Millard Social Hall is still pretty dinky. It would be nice to find a place the size of the Lancaster Event Center, not sure anything like that exists in the Omaha metro area(but not IN Omaha) though.

Way not an outdoor one, say at Warner Park. That should be big enough.

Im not familiar with Ralstons arena size, but if you take out the crafts, leather works, beef jerky and other stuff that I have no interest in looking at the Lancaster gun show, maybe it would be about the right size?
Id rather pack a small facility than have a big one half full.
That said, living in Lincoln, Im not sure I would drive to Ralston for a gun show. So maybe Im not your primary focus group ;D

Sounds like you are not the target audience, as I looked at nearly everything at the Lincoln show... from AR15s and AK47s to animal pelts and bags of beads. I've also driven to Tulsa, OK for the Wanenmacher show which is the largest one in the USA at 11 acres under one roof.
I'd also rather have a big show that is packed full than another tiny one like the Millard show. An outdoor show is not possible.
The building that the show was held at last weekend in Lincoln is 245' x 330' or about 82,500 square feet.
Ralston Arena is...
Project Size
120,000 sq. ft. – entire project size
16,327 sq. ft. – multi-use arena size (200 × 85)
16,327 sq. ft. – auxiliary rink 1 (200 × 85)
7,718 sq. ft. – banquet space / lobby
No way near big enough. A large empty warehouse would be ideal...

I still think it would work. all over Nebraska small towns hold gun shows, many from 40 to 80 tables, sure the millard show is small. but they pull thu almost as many people as fremont, Id have 3 tables there if it did happen,
It just kind of rubs me when I hear "if we cant have a huge show, we wont have any"

There's plenty of small shows in Eastern Nebraska, why not have a great big one?

Rick I agree we could use a Large show in Eastern Nebraska. While I understand the lets support and have a gun show no matter what the size, the idea of putting on a big show is a good one and trying to develop one does not interfere with those that want to put together or sponsor a show of whatever size they can put together.

I've been to Herman, Calhoun and millard shows . Would love to see a decent one in Ralston

I remember the Mayor of Ralston was a member of Blumberg's Mayors against guns club.
But he quietly resigned after some bad press came out about the group.
Don't know if this matters, but from what I hear the Ralston arena is his baby, and his brother is involved in running it.
It is a great place to watch hockey!!

Not sure if I'm the friend mentioned, but I'll respond :-)
Large indoor in Papillion would be tough (since I don't think the schools would be too friendly), but....
...someone mentioned outside...in that case 2 thought:
1) Werner Stadium and
2). Sumtur Amphitheatre)

Werner Park does have 2 large open air covered pavillions, and a large covered plaza where the food and drink vendors are. Plus it is all fenced and secure.

The Safari Club International, Nebraska Chapter has held several banquets at the La Vista/Hotel & Conference Center (Embassy Suites) next to Cabelas. I'm not sure what they would charge.

The PAF looked at having a banquet there, they are very expensive.

Werner would be cheaper and unique

Unless they put a dome over it, that won't work.
