Title: So, How much is considered a "CACHE" ?
Post by: NE Bull on April 30, 2015, 09:53:27 AM
Finishing up moving. Yesterday we moved the ammo, and just his morning we moved the firearms.
Each had to go in their own seperate load due to both weight and cubic foot capacity limits of the SUV. (sorry forgot to take pics- I know ya'll luv yer pics)

It got me thinking- we read about these police home raids/ busts/ investigations, etc where they find a "cache" of weapons and ammo.  Is there any specification on where a fella has crossed from collection of a few guns to a 'Weapons Cache".  Any of the LEO, former or present on here have any insight?

Obviously this post is mostly Tongue in Cheek, BUT I'm also curious.

To the Libs, anyone that owns any firearms is a paranoid gun nut.
That makes us all mental.

During testimony this year, (I don't recall which bill) I heard a new term by the anti's.  We were described as "Gun Dependent".  I have no idea WTH that even means.   But it's a fun illustration of what you are saying.

Even Barney Fife had a "cache" of ammunition.

To go with your "weapons cache" if you have a propane tank (for the grille), a gas can (for the mower)  and a bag of fertilizer (for the yard) in the garage you are a terrorist too...

so you can get the fbi, homeland security in on the action with your local police dept.

Oh Lord! Three big propane bottles, 4 little camp grill size, at least half a dozen gas cans.  But no fertilizer, I do have some potting soil though....

I saw a few old pressure cookers at a GARAGE sale today .....( I won't even mention the nationality of the homeowners- that'd be profiling)

Speaking of DHS , I wonder how long before they are driving around my new place.  I saw them around the old place a time or two.

Better hope you do not have any chlorine for a  pool or can of wasp spray.   If you do it could be considered a WMD (Weapon of Mass Desruction).

When your "cache" of ammo requires a separate run of your SUV I'd say it qualifies more as a stockpile!  A pile of ammo it certainly is.  I can carry my stash of ammo in my hands, and still carry a couple of rifles and a pistol. :D

If you can carry your entire cache of ammo ... you need more ammo.

for me, a cache is what i take to the range for a short shooting session.  and it takes a lot of cash to replace it all.

Cash is what I used to have before my cache.

I know I am changing the subject a bit,  but,..I was at some training once given by the ATF ( I was LEO for 35 years)  I really stuck my neck out in class in front of everyone since I like to buy and trade up guns as a hobby.  I asked how many guns can a guy sell/trade in a year before he gets himself in hot water and would need a dealers license (FFL)   I really could not pin down that Agent down to a number as hard as I  tried.  It was very subjective as to who was investigating and what they thought at the time.  Not very comforting even to me.  He did say all rules are suspended if you are liquidating a gun collection as part of an estate..  Bottom, line....I would never tell anyone you are making a profit,.. takes away the old hobby defense. Besides that would be true for me since I usually went backwards, cash wise, in my efforts to get something new. as for cache...?? anything that does not fit in one ammo can.

cache = if you have to ask how much to have, it's not enough.  Oh wait, that's an ARFcom  answer.

Laughed at that one.  Seems I buy high and sell low.

87 guns is the minimum size for a cache, as long as any trash can guns (AK's) aren't counted.   :D

I think possums factor in there somewhere, also.
