Title: Renewing CCW Permit?
Post by: zofoman on December 13, 2024, 05:06:33 PM
Curious to know...from the few people that still visit this old site...are you folks renewing your CCW since the recent constitutional carry went into effect?

I renewed mine earlier this year and also re-took the Minnesota portion at Nebraska Shooters (thanks Justin) in April so I would have that for my fall fishing trip up there.  MN requires you to take their course for out-of-state renewal.  I plan to continue to renew just for piece of mind & ability to purchase firearms without having to obtain a separate purchase permit.  I also like to retake & refresh on the CCW rules & regs every few years as there is always good information exchanged no matter where those classes are taken or who is leading the course.

Anyone?

I renewed mine for a couple of reasons.  One is the purchase permit function, the other is for reciprocity in other states.  There are advantages in some states that don't have full reciprocity as well.  I guess a 3rd reason is that I believe having the permit might carry some weight if I were ever to be involved in a shooting incident.  I encourage everyone to consider keeping the permit as long as it is around.

I renewed mine for both the Purchase Permit function, and as a non-verbal way of alerting any official during my "duty to inform".  It doesn't happen often, but did happen once while driving my wife's older Kia Sorento.  Permit on top of license and there was no question that I'd fulfilled my obligation.
