With just two weeks left for Governor Culver to sign Senate File 2379, anti-gun forces are actively urging Governor Culver to VETO the bill. Senate File 2379 would make Iowa a ?shall issue? carry state and would require Sheriffs to issue an Iowa Permit to Carry Weapons to all applicants, unless they are subject to certain specific disqualifiers. Senate File 2379 was a huge victory for gun owners in the Hawkeye State but it won?t become law without the Governor?s support.
Please contact Governor Culver TODAY and respectfully urge him to sign this important pro-gun legislation into law.

You can also call the Governor's office at 515-281-5211.
Folks, we are almost at the finish line. We are two weeks away from a drop dead date. If Governor Colver decides to NOT sign this bill, it will automatically die, and we are back to square one. The Governor MUST hear from you, even if you've already contacted him once. Or twice. Let your voice be heard, and let him know that you expect him to sign this important piece of legislation into law!
Everyone who has a permit to carry from ANY state and travels to or through Iowa has a dog in this hunt! The new law would honor ALL permits issued by other states.

Members let us all get on board with this call to help Iowa get its bill signed by the Governor.
Email sent.
-
They don't even have voice mail?
I will have to try again on Monday
I tacked this to make it easier to locate
-
I copied the post and forwarded it to all the folks that I know are in Iowa. That's about all I can do.
-
You don't need to be an Iowa resident to write or call Gov. Culver's office about this. I wrote a letter explaining I would do more business and spend more money in Iowa if doing so didn't require that I forfeit my most effective means of personal defense.
Anyone with a permit in any other state has a stake in this. I actively avoid traveling through or to states where I can't carry.

Cathy1911 - Good point. I'll call tomorrow.
-
I called and alerted alot of shooting pardners, were a Nebraska club, but our range is located in Iowa...
-
Made my call and expressed my opinion. I hope he is listening.
-
I sent him an e-mail on friday nite and also showed him the south dakota governor and other govenors who also support the 2nd Amen... and no I did not get a response from him or his staff. But I was happy to send it out.
-
I assumed with a veto proof majority that it would automatically pass, but if Iowa is different that that he will let it die on the vine as he knows he will not get reelected and will do as much damage as he can on the way out.
-
Because the bill passed during the last three days of the session, if he does not sign it gets an automatic "pocket veto."
The deadline is April 29. This is no time to let up on the pressure.
-
I don't think he's going to sign it. I would think he would have by now, given that he has supposedly said that he would before.
-
It has been announced that Culver plans to sign SF-2379 into law at 9:00am on Thursday April 29. Several media outlets have stories regarding the announcement.
Check out IowaCarry.org for more information. Remember, this law does not go into effect until January 1, 2011 but when it does, permits from across the country will be recognized by the state of Iowa.
After he signs the law, it wouldn't hurt to send him a message thanking him for his support of individual rights and the Second Amendment.
Speaking for the people of Iowa (as a NE resident) Thank you for your calls and letters urging Culver to sign the bill.

All my cowboy action buddies are celebrating tonight. We are a Nebraska club, but our range is in Iowa. Next year, no stopping to stow our CCW's... YEE HAW!!!
-
I wouldn't start partying just yet. I will believe it when he actually does sign it. I sent an email to him last week urging him to sign since he promised to and I visit Iowa quite on a regular basis because I target shoot there and also have family in an eastern Iowa city.
Why does he want to sign it at the last minute?
-
It will be a public signing ceremony on the lawn of the Capitol on Thursday morning. I'd say it is guaranteed he will be signing it. No one in there right mind would set up a public ceremony for a bill this important just to veto it in front of all the bills supporters. Political suicide doesnt even come close to the proper term for that action.
-
Well good. This puts me at ease. I'm happy that he has chosen to do the right thing. It would have been an outrage for him not to sign a bill that got over 90% support in the State Senate and over 80% in the State House.
-
It is done! Culver signed it this morning...
-
Very good news.

Finally!
