Curious to see how long it takes people to get their handgun permit after submitting the form.
-
If I remember right it took about 5 weeks for mine. It all depends on how busy they are, didn't they change this time frame in some of the legislature from last year to take less time, I may be wrong.
-
Brad, are you asking about the Firearm Purchase certificate, applied for at the County Sheriff? or Concealed Handgun Permit? What Sparky said is current for the CHP. For the Purchase Certificate it shouldn't take more than 3 days.

+1 on the purchase permit. I got mine in less than a week.

I've gotten all mine in about 20 minutes.

Concealed Handgun permit is running 4-6 weeks. Keep in mind there has been a backlog of applications coupled with a shortage of help at the Lincoln NSP CID office. On top of this, CHP holders who got the first permits in 2007 are now up for renewal, so they are now going to be dealing with renewal apps as well

How did you do this? When I turn 21 I want my guns asap

If you go to the Sheriff's office and wait in line, you can get the purchase permit in 10-20 minutes. It costs about $15, if I remember right.

The fee is $5 for three years.
The wait totally depends on the Sheriffs Department...... Some (very few) will do it while you wait, most take a couple days to get it done

It took them about a half hour or more to do the renewal for mine as apparently if you have never been ticketed or arrested then they have no record of you existing.

Yep, fee is five bucks. I just went to my city police office to get mine done. Also I think there is a statute that says they have to get it done in a certain length of time, like 3 or 5 days? They were slow getting mine done, but I didn't really have a problem with it, was in no big hurry to buy a gun at the time. Good luck.
