I live in Lincoln and am kinda new to Nebraska. I enjoy visting Thunder Alley to put some lead down range, however, I would like to find a place outdoors to fire off a couple rounds of 5.56 out of my ar-15. So my question is, where do you go for good 50-100 yd outdoor range time? Thanks!!

Izaak Walton off of Hwy 2 by Bennet. Join this month. You know you want to. i shoot at the Vintage Military rifle matches there during the summer as time allows, it is a nice range. I will also be looking into getting a membership there as well, maybe i'll see ya there sometime.

Yea, I was checking out Isaac Walton, how many people here are members? I didn't see anything on their calender this month for new membership. I guess I could call them. Thanks!

I'm an Ikes member. We have rifle ranges from 25 to 300 meters, pistol from 7 to 25, trap, and 5 stand. The 25, 50, 75 and 100 are open to members all the time except during scheduled matches. The 200 and 300 are open only when a range officer is scheduled, usually 2 or 3 times a week.
Membership is ala carte, you can buy a rifle/pistol membership, a shotgun, or both. New member orientation is required before you use the range. I think a rifle/pistol card is $130 per year, plus a one time deposit on the key card. They usually have a class every month.
The website should have a membership application if you're interested. I usually shoot almost every weekend, so if you want to try it out let me know (a guest pass is $10 per day). I just had some minor shoulder surgery though so I probably wont be out for a couple of weeks.

I was a member for several years, let it lapse last year for financial reasons (no work). I would like to renew it, as the range is a nice place to shoot whether you want to go on your own or shoot in competitions. The prices may have gone up. I think I paid about $100 for a one year rifle card (includes the pistol range as well) and the cost of local membership (I am a lifetime national member) plus the deposit for the gate key (electronic card type).
I actually took the range safety officer class, hoping that it would get me onto the 300 yard range without having to go when a bunch of others were there (for competition or whatever), but that's not how they work it there. You still have to go when a designated RSO is scheduled to run the range. Oh, well. :(
I don't know of any other outdoor range any closer or cheaper or better. Well, there may be better ones, but not as close, and probably not as cheap.

A&H, you can use the 300 yard range if you're an RSO, you just have to put it on the schedule ahead of time and make it available for others as well. I'm and RSO there as well. I don't do a lot of events but I do fill in for other guys from time to time.

I may take you up on that, thank you!

Another Lincoln Ike's member here
-
I am most likely going Saturday to work out some new handloads, and practice for the next CMP shoot.

I am a virgin Ike's member. It is a nice facility. Due to my work schedule, I was not going to be available to attend a scheduled orientation until sometime in early 2012. I spoke with membership chairman, Wes Sheets (466-9040 or email wsheets@radiks.net) and he set up a time during one of the hunter sight ins to give myself and another gentleman the orientation.
My only complaint about the range is that I have not been able to spend much time there. ;D

Yeah, I realize I could use the 300yd range if I put myself on the schedule. I'm not much of a schedule guy, though. If I feel like doing something, I do it when I feel like it rather than setting up a time in the future for it. Also, I didn't really want to be responsible for the range or others on it, just wanted to shoot. Actually, I don't even have anything that I'd use on the 300yd range at this time. The idea was, that if I became an RSO, I'd buy something to shoot. So much for that. :(
Thanks for the comment, though. :)

Thank's everyone!! I'm definitely gonna check it out (after these 45 mph winds quit) I like shooting outdoors alot, and $130 a year is very reasonable! Once again, thanks!!

So I went down and signed up at Ikes last week, took advantage of the nice January weather on Tuesday and went to the range!! I'm glad I did, what a great place and the people I met were extremely nice and helpful (I was having trouble sighting in my Eotech) A gentleman by the name of George took the time out of his shooting to spot for me! This is exactly the type of place I was looking for!! Thanks for the recommendation!! Hope to see some of you out there, I'm hard to miss, I drive a black Ford F-150 with a giant Florida State Seminoles (Chief Osceola head) on my back window! (I graduated from there)

Good deal...I'll be sure to say hi if I see you. My daughter and I were going to go this weekend but now it sounds like the weather is going to turn nasty.
-
Yea, definitely say hi! I was planning on doing the same thing, but I think I'll wait til next week! Damn Nebraska weather, kinda hard to plan anything around it! :D
-
Hey, we get a week or two of nice weather in the spring and fall.....4 out of 52 isn't bad.
