Title: ENPS Zombie Match, Oct 28th!
Post by: JTH on July 18, 2012, 09:33:06 PM
Yes, I know it is early.  However, that means you don't have any excuse for not making it, because you can get it on your calendar NOW.

The ENPS Zombie Match is an action pistol match for charity.  There are both rimfire and centerfire divisions.

I'll keep adding more information as time goes by, but here's the start:

For information, go to the website at:
http://precisionresponse.4t.com/Zombie1/ZombieMatch.html (http://precisionresponse.4t.com/Zombie1/ZombieMatch.html)

If you know you are going to be able to go, pre-register online on the website.  It'll make our registration MUCH faster at the match.

I'll be including more information about helping out, working the match, registration details, and match specifics over the next couple of months.

If you are on Facebook, like our page at:
http://www.facebook.com/ENPSZombieMatch (http://www.facebook.com/ENPSZombieMatch)

...to get updates, pictures, and (ahem) helpful hints for match success.

So you don't get eaten by zombies.

(If you are a USPSA RO or CRO, check back here periodically because I'll have some info for you if you want to work the match.)

We've just added lots of general information to the Zombie Match website---details about registration, match schedules, safety rules, and other things handy for everyone to know.

We also added some commentary for people interested in helping out by working the match as either setup crew or range officers.

Take a look!  http://precisionresponse.4t.com/Zombie1/ZInfo.html (http://precisionresponse.4t.com/Zombie1/ZInfo.html)

(And again, if you are on Facebook, go to http://www.facebook.com/ENPSZombieMatch (http://www.facebook.com/ENPSZombieMatch) and like the page so you get all the updates.)

If you haven't looked at it yet---do so!  This match is for everyone who can shoot a pistol.  You can run the match shooting a .22 rimfire if you like---or instead shoot your ultra-cool centerfire racegun.  We've got four divisions that cover everyone (though I must admit, it isn't too revolver friendly....).

Pre-register online to make our lives easier.  We already have some people who've reserved squad spots---and you know you are going to want to shoot this.  :)

So, you want to shoot the Zombie Match but you are SO POOR (or so cheap) that you can't even give $20 to kids for the Toys-for-Tots Foundation...

...we can help you!  (But only for a limited number of "you".)

Here's the deal:

The regular match will be held on Sunday, October 28th.  HOWEVER, the ROs and the setup staff will be setting up the stages on Saturday, October 27th---and then shooting them.  That way we can have dedicated ROs on each stage (and with each squad) on match day.  The ROs will be shooting for score just like everyone else, and have volunteered their time to work the match.  (And will take the hit on their shooting ability by having spent the morning setting up the stages, then running themselves while shooting the match.)

But what about the setup staff/help?

Want to be one?

A limited number of folks who volunteer to help will be chosen as official setup staff for the match.  They'll show up with the ROs in the morning to set up the stages on Saturday, and then will shoot the match for free in the afternoon.  Their stages will count for score.

AND, if they want, they can also shoot another division for score the following day, though they will be expected to pay for that entry.  (And they are of course welcome to donate $$ or a toy for their first entry if they wish...this is for charity, after all.)

We are currently still looking for setup staff for the match.  If you are interested, go to the Zombie Match website  http://precisionresponse.4t.com/Zombie1/ZombieMatch.html (http://precisionresponse.4t.com/Zombie1/ZombieMatch.html) and use the "RO/Setup Staff Registration" link.  Make sure to choose "Setup Staff" when you register.

I can't guarantee that you'll be chosen for setup staff---it depends on how many volunteers that I get.  If you ARE chosen, we'll contact you by email to let you know.  If you AREN'T chosen, we'll contact you by email to ask if you want to register for the match on Sunday.

We will be providing lunch for ROs and setup staff on Saturday, and lunch for the ROs on Sunday.

------------------

Hey, USPSA-certified ROs---want to work the match?  We still have some spots open for that, too.  Similar to the above, go to the website and choose the RO-version of registration.

---------------------

Everyone else---keep practicing your headshots!  The Zombie Match is getting closer...

What division do you mean to be in?  Centerfire Irons?  Is that both you and your wife?  Send me an email to PRT@precisionresponse.4t.com (to remind me, because my brain isn't necessarily working this week) and I'll fix it.

Maybe Thomas could loan you one of his pellet guns.  I wouldn't blame you if you "accidentally" let a pellet fly in Chris Z's direction.

Actually, you can do that in ANY of the divisions.  But since you'll probably be shooting lots of ammo, I'd suggest a rimfire division to save money.  :)

(And you'll probably have plenty of company with respect to not looking at the sights.)

This is a win.

Very good cause as well.

Looking forward to it.

Cheers.

And even worse---if you miss the zombie but hit a no-shoot, that adds 10 seconds to your time. Plus you've killed some poor innocent dude.

I think we should go by the Apocalyptic rules.  You know...Comstock, Virginia, and Apocalyptic.  Or more accurately, the "Every man (woman) for himself (herself)" rules.  Dead innocents are an acceptable loss.  If you don't want to get shot, don't get caught by a group of Zombies. If I am still alive at the end of the stage, all is good.  ;D

You will be fine if you follow these rules while I am shooting...

1) Don't stand next to the Zombies
2) Never break rule #1

The match is getting pretty close, folks...you've all been practicing your headshots, right?  :)

....well, you should go find out what it is about.

Get yourself practiced for the Zombie Match this coming Sunday!  (Weather looks to be cool but clear, probably going to be a great day for shooting zombies!)

Just in case people didn't know this----the match is open to EVERYONE.  You do NOT have to be a member of ENGC to shoot the match.

Matter of fact, you don't have to be a member of ENGC to shoot any of the matches hosted by the Eastern Nebraska Practical Shooters.  That means USPSA Action Pistol, Steel Challenge, and Multigun----you can come and shoot, or come and watch a match and THEN come out and shoot the next time.  :)

I know quite a few people who only have two goals for every competition they attempt:

1) Don't DQ.  (Be safe, and don't get disqualified!)

2) Don't be last.

And, I might have family issues to deal with this weekend, instead of not setting my alarm clock for a match on an absolutely perfect day.  :P         Rookie   ;)

Will have to see what the schedule holds.

More importantly---Koz, were you thinking of being setup crew for Saturday, and shooting then?  I don't have a registration for you, so I don't have you on the list...matter of fact, I don't have a registration for you for either day!

http://precisionresponse.4t.com/Zombie1/ZResults.html (http://precisionresponse.4t.com/Zombie1/ZResults.html)

Congratulations to the division winners:
Open:  Sherwyn Greenfield
Iron:  Thomas Howard
.22 Open:  Ken Anderson
.22 Iron:  Sean Gewecke

We had 102 shooters overall show up for the match---it was a great time!

If you weren't there, you MISSED OUT!  (So put it on your calendars for next year...)

For folks who tried it and had a good time, come out to our monthly USPSA match next Sunday.  If you liked the Zombie Match, you are going to thoroughly enjoy USPSA Action Pistol matches.  (Though you might come watch one first, just to make sure you understand the differences, and are completely clear on the USPSA safety rules.)

Thanks to everyone who worked the match, by the way----a lot of people volunteered significant amounts of time and effort to make this happen.  I heard quite a few people say how much they enjoyed the match, and how smoothly it went---and that is all because of the ROs who volunteered.

Great effort by all who put it together and a hearty thanks. You did an excellent job.

Lunch was great, provided by scouts. Nice touch.

I am not into the zombie thing, this match was not overcooked, it was a cool match and for a good cause.

Thanks again to all the RO's, organizers etc.

Very well done.

Cheers.

Sherwyn was fun to watch on that stage---he got 26 points, and was one shot away from having 30 points.  (If he could have made one more shot, he would have gotten that zombie point, plus one more human saved.)

Someone in our squad brought up a good point.  If you were VERY confident that you had shot all the zombies/infected surrounding an innocent except one zombie, it would be worth while to take your time and take the last shot.  You would have 2 points deducted, but you would have gained 3 points by shooting the last zombie (+1) and saving the innocent (+2).  You wouldn't have to rush the last shot because there was only one 2 point deduction for each shot fired after the par time, regardless of how long after the par time the shot was taken.  Hey...a point is a point.

Or did we not understand the rules correctly?

Nope.  That is correct---other than you got 3 points for saving the human plus the point for the zombie for a total of four points.  (And then the penalty.)

So you would have ended up 2 points ahead.

I'm thinking the number of times that situation would have occurred would probably not be large, though...  :)

I did much better this time... I ran with some better ammo, so no FTFs. I'll start working on my draw and reloads now. This was a really fun match to shoot. I enjoyed shooting the infected targets so much that I shot a few of them six times... it was worth the extra time.

I did forget all about shooting the swinging target on stage five, even after hitting the pressure plate... whoopsies.

It occurs to me to post a video of the stages (and my screwups).  For people who couldn't make it and have never gone to an action pistol match, it'll give you an idea of what we shot, and how the stages went.

2012 ENPS Zombie Match (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USSLz2b30-U#ws)

(The music choice is my wife's fault.  Just sayin'...)

As a comment---for those people with .22 carbines or centerfire pistol-caliber carbines, we are probably going to add a couple of divisions allowing those.  So if you have a .22 carbine with a 25-round mag, or a 9mm AR with a dot that you want to try, you'll get to run it next year...  :)

(We might even open up the match for a few more people to shoot it on Saturday, too.  That one is still being discussed, however.)

Hey, if I keep practicing, maybe I'll actually eventually get good.

Or at least consistent.  As opposed to the random reloads (stage 2) , the periodic pauses (like in the first string of stage 4), the many misses (string 2 of stage 4, plus the missed headshot on stage 3).....

With all the support I get from you guys, I'll eventually reach competency.  :)

Or at least consistent.  As opposed to the random reloads (stage 2) , the periodic pauses (like in the first string of stage 4), the many misses (string 2 of stage 4, plus the missed headshot on stage 3).....

With all the support I get from you guys, I'll eventually reach competency.  :)

Yah...I didn't want to say it, but you suck.   ;D

Yes...he struggles to keep up, but we are trying to bring him up to our level.

It also appears he is using the wrong hand. ;)

You'd be amazed at how often I hear that on the range.  :)

One of these days, I'm going to shoot a match right-handed.  (I have a right-handed holster for people who aren't in their right mind, so I could use that.)

If I beat anyone while shooting that way, I'm going to make fun of them for quite a long time...

You could probably shoot with your feet and beat me in one of these competitions.  But one of these days I will give it a try.

I think the most difficult part of you competing with your right hand will be the draw and reloads.  Otherwise, I think you'd do extremely well!

Next May in the Special Classifier match I'll shoot Production first, then I'll shoot it again right-handed with your G35 in Limited-10 division.   :)

Anyone else want to try it, too?
