More in area seek to carry guns following Aurora shooting
Douglas County Sheriff's Office says applications nearly doubled
Concealed weapon applications in the area have spiked following the deadly movie theater rampage in Aurora, Colo.
Shooting suspect James Holmes, 24, is accused of opening fire on a theater full of people during the midnight premiere of "The Dark Knight Rises," killing 12 people and injuring 58 others.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office usually gets 15 to 20 gun permit applications a day. On Monday, 40 people applied to own a gun, the office reported.

Once again the media doesn't get the details straight :-X

+1 on the moronic misstatement of facts.

This is an exceptional lack of facts...

Whoa whoa whoa what?
Is this for concealed carry or a purchase permit? The picture they show is for purchase permits, and there is no way people could have taken the class already and applied... How dumb is this news station to not realize there is a different permit to buy a handgun than to carry a handgun...

Is this for concealed carry or a purchase permit?
Note that the Douglas county sheriff is not the issuing authority for CHPs. So I am completely baffled.
-
I'm certain they meant purchase permits but didn't get the language straight. Feel free to flame them on a lack of fact checking before publishing the article.

I saw the piece at 10 last night. It wasn't too bad and seemed clear to me they meant purchase permits. They interviewed an instructor from 88 Tactical who said they received a lot of emails about CHP classes.
The fact they did report that jumped out to me was that there are now over 16,000 CHPs issued in the state.

If the reporter that put that story together submitted it for a grade in journalism school, they would be given an F.
I'm almost embarrassed to admit, these days, that my undergraduate degree is in journalism.

According to NSP, as of June 1, 2012, there are currently 17,171 active conceal carry permits in Nebraska.
Wow, if it is only 16,000 now that muse mean quite a few expired in the last two months that were not renewed.

I do believe that Aurora Co is in Douglas County, Colorado. If that is what might be confusing :blank:

Except it is not, and the news station from Omaha is indeed reporting about Omaha.

Gun sales in Colorado have reportedly spiked by 41 percent. The increase in sales is due to a reaction to last week's movie theater massacre, when a mad man opened fire on nearly 300 unarmed people. The theater where 12 people were killed and 53 were wounded is a gun free zone. The biggest spike in sales came the day of the shooting.
