Title: Omaha homeowner shoots would-be burglar

They don't give much detail, but it would appear that this would be scored as Good Guy 1, Bad Guy 0.

Seems short.  Must not work for their agenda.

So true... A few weeks ago a guy came into our store looking for a new home protection gun because he said he shot an intruder and the police had to take it as evidence. Wish I would have asked when it happened so I could have looked up his story, probably would have been as short as this one if it was justifiable though.

Actually, I'd be inclined to agree:

Quote from: article
Police declined to describe the gun

How does that matter ?

He probably has a long wait/fight to get the gun back regardless of how righteous the shooting was.

I don't want to generalize, but that's not the best part of town. A lot of these things turn out to be "business" disputes between two less than reputable individuals. I'm not surprised at the sparse reporting because the whole story isn't apparent yet.

So the moral of the story is to always conduct the "business" in your own home so you have a legal leg to stand on.  :)

This morning WOWT reported that the man who was shot was pounding on the door when he was shot.  Based on the OWH story, that may or may not be accurate.

We'll see how this plays out.
Unfortunately, this might be a proper test of our so called "Castle Doctrine" law.

I used to live in South Omaha and I only had one neighbor who sold drugs, well actually it was 2 brothers, but they worked out of their mothers house...

I’m surprised he was able to purchase a new one so soon.  Wasn’t McCullough unable to purchase a new handgun after the Walgreens incident?

NFOA members came together and bought him a self defense firearm, but it was a fight to get it registered in Omaha.

The story has been updated with details.

Called 'justified self defense' now.

Shannon Magee said the neighborhood normally is quiet.

"If he shot somebody for intruding in his home, I applaud him," Magee said. "I'm glad to have neighbors that protect the neighborhood."

The neighbors know the score, even if the OWH does not.

The report now says it was a .22 caliber rifle....... could be .22 lr, .223 or .220 Swift, technically .......

Suspect was shot in the knee and in the chest ......

Good shooting on the part of the homeowner, though: 2 shots fired, 2 hits.

He showed a good bit more restraint than I would have, I think- a guy coming at me is not going to get one in the knee as a warning (particularly if all I have is a .22lr!).

I was just throwing out a word of caution about proclaiming the shooter a poster child for gun rights before more details were known. I'm very glad he was justified.

All the more reason to believe that it was a burglar, no? People in rough locations are more likely to need a firearm for defense than folks who live in gated communities.

So if I am reading between the lines correctly, what you are saying is that if the evil War on Drugs wasn't going on, this possible business dispute might have been resolved peacefully, rather than a vendor or buyer being forced to engage in self-help due to courts being unwilling to enforce related purchase agreements?  ::)

I knew I could count on you to bring the "pure" libertarian point of view. :)

I'm not surprised at the sparse reporting because the whole story isn't apparent yet.

I don't think that the sparse reporting is due to lack of information---after all, the news folks have made it amply clear that a lack of information does NOT stop them from commenting, theorizing, or flat-out making up stories to tell.

I really do think it isn't news to them, because it doesn't fit their concept of what should be reported.

Dead guy apparently owned a yard service / tree trimming thing.  A coworker used his trimming services before and was going to suggest him to another coworker.

Small world, eh ?
