Title: Reply from Sheriff Dunning - Douglas County
Post by: Lmbass14 on January 29, 2013, 07:18:54 PM
Here is the reply I rec'd from our sheriff.  Was kinda surprised that he even responded.  I know he's probably getting slammed.  BTW, Haven't heard from ANY of our congressmen/woman.

I give him full credit regardless of line in sand, taken at his vow not to violate the 2nd.

Very good. I am quite gratified by the number of Law Enforcement that has publicly stated the same. Granted they are largely Sheriffs (elected) from conservative/rural areas but none the less that is a bold statement.

Even the New York State Sheriffs Assoc came out and asked the State Dictator an his sham Legislature to reconsider the abominable 'SAFE Act' they just imposed.

Thanks for sharing.  Not too surprising on his stance.  As far as I know or have heard he is not a anti gun Sheriff and have heard an all around good guy.

Actually, he DID draw a line in the sand, and right where it should be ... the 2nd Amendment!

If he  keeps his word he's a good man!

It depends on what his views are that "violate" the second ammendment that he will or will not enforce.  According to some taking away some style of guns but allowing others is not a violation as they are allowing you to bear arms???   I can only assume his position from a statement like that is that he is not supporting any ban of "assault" weapons but like I said it depends on what he views as a violation of the 2nd.

Example:

To many gun enthusiasts, making people apply and get permits for a CCW is a violation of the 2nd but I would be a bunch he would cite somebody he pulled over for having a concealed weapon with no permit.

Recieved a survey from Adrian Smith today via email. It had 3 questions.  #1-Do you support further federal gun control restrictions including the banning of specific firearms, ammunitions, and/or  accessories?  #2-Do you support federal legislation to require universal background checks when purchasing firearms?  #3-What is your opinion of the 2nd amendment.  I hope a lot of our people got this as well

Cheval, did that come in the mail or by some electronic means?  Is Adrian Smith your local rep?

After seeing Lmbass14's message here, I sent along a 'thank you' to Sheriff Dunning.

This was his response:

Quote
William,
I participated in a Press Conference in Wash DC on Friday with the
National Sheriff's Association.  Over 1,000 Sheriffs were in attendance
and all supported our Press Release.  Please visit the National Sheriffs
Association website to view our Press Release and talking points.

Received this update from Sheriff Dunning.

Bernie,
I am a member of the National Sheriff’s Association.  On Friday February 1, 2013, while at our Mid-Winter Conference in Washington DC, I stood firm with over a 1,000 Sheriff’s at a Press Conference taking a stand against Gun Control.  Go to the National Sheriff’s Association website to read our Press Release.

The question I have is this; Are there differences on Nebraska counties concerning local ordinances on gun laws? In other words, what counties in Nebraska are stricter and which counties are more lenient on lawful gun ownership and usage?
