The Zombies in the Heartland / Pandemic 2013 event is coming up soon. It's at Heartland Public Shooting Park in Grand Island May 31 - June 2.
The NFOA has been offered space for a booth / table / ???
Let's take advantage of this opportunity and put on something fun! Who want to be involved? We need people to man the table / booth of course, but also some ideas on what we can do to make this fun. Let's do something different from the usual information table and have fun with the theme of the event. Chime in if you would like to get involved.
-
Me ... me ... me! I do ... I do.
I won't be able to attend but I think it would be fun to help plan something fun and interesting.
-
i'll help, if i can! ill have to check my work schedule and with the wife.
what should we do? 30cal suppressor raffle? *cough* Rod *cough* maybe several different raffles? shooting event? zombie obstacle course?
-
I remember reading about last years event, and the competition sounded like it would be fun..however never having tried my hand at such a thing, I chickened out.
I`m pretty sure I could volunteer some time at a booth, or if there is a member who could get my shooting skills in shape in less than 2 weeks time...
-
I'll help out man the Booth or set up targets whatever count me in. )
-
sounds like we are off to a good start.
raffle? great idea. Suppressor? that could be a possibility.
-
Grand Island is right in my neck of the woods...I am not to creative but i could help out with anyones ideas and/or man a booth
-
I'm in for graphics design and whatever else needs doing!
-
Just an FYI for those needing to carry 123 rounds of 12 g. shells around for Zombie defense... ;D

I'm in Lincoln, but I've always wanted to check that event out. I might be able to help out on the weekend. Contact me as it gets closer.

The down side to a suppressor is that it will appeal to a limited audience.
How about zombie targets? Maybe some "special edition" NFOA zombie T-shirts?
-
If more T-Shirts are going to be made, (NFOA/NFOA Zombie), please consider doing some with a pocket on it.
-

How about some ammo, everybody seems to be looking for that ;)
-
or how about a combination of all the above. a zombie NFOA bug out bag? we could do two raffles maybe?
ETA: bag w/ MOLLE and hook and look, NFOA patch, box of ammo, some zombie target, MRE, water or filter, small pocketknife or multitool, shemagh, NFOA shirt, map, compass, giftcard???
-
I think T-shirts are a good idea. It would be nice to have an event specific design. I'll need to get more NFOA t-shirts made up anyway, so adding another design in the mix is no problem.
Keep the ideas coming.

Me likey!
I'd be happy to put together the bag contents and recommend a bag. Additionally, as a smaller prize, we might want to consider a pocket-sized kit. I used to sell ready-made pocket kits and could easily put one together. I probably still have almost all of the contents.
I wonder if Pandemic has thought about doing embroidered hook & loop patches. It would be cool to have an NFOA patch and a Pandemic patch both included with the bag.
I'm definitely thinking that any T-shirts should be even (but not date) specific. The trick with T-shirts that have pockets is making sure the design and the pocket work together.
Do we have permission to use the Pandemic design? Anyone have a contact with the Pandemic planners?

I'll talk to Bill out there and see if we can get permission. Standby.
-
I'll start throwing together some banner/ graphic design ideas together this evening. We do we need designs for? How big is the booth/table/area?

No details on size of our area yet. I'm thinking at least a 6' or 8' table - and perhaps more room if we come up with some activity that requires more space. Maybe some competition that can get people active and based on their performance they get entries into a drawing for the mini kit Toby described (or similar smaller prizes). And then possibly have a larger raffle sort of event for a bigger item (like the zombie BOB or similar bigger prize) - pending of course that Bill and Heartland would be okay with us selling tickets for a mini raffle as an NFOA fundraiser.
As far as banner, I'm kinda thinking something large, say, 6'-8' long by 3'-4' tall? Maybe rig up a PVC sort of hanger for it so we can have it suspended above the table? Then we can reuse the rig at future events, like the Women's expo, gun shows, BSA events, etc. with other NFOA banners if this one ends up being too zombitastic for other events. What's anyone else think?
-
Since this is outdoors we most likely will have around 10', most people doing outdoors events give 10'x10' spaces because that gives you the ability to set up a standard awning to protect from sun and rain.
Talking about tables, I have Scott's (Lilrat) 6" table that needs to get back that direction that I bet he would not mind us using, and a 30" round 42" tall table that works nice for sign-ups and raffle tickets that we can use.

Ooh ... I like it!
How about loading up a pack with bricks and doing a timed run - or maybe a fireman's carry?

hmmm . . . I know someone who may have an advantage in that type of event because of how they train.
-
That is a great idea Toby. It's something that could really set the NFOA apart from the rest of the sponsors.
-

yea, what he said! ha ha

I'm pretty sure that individual has a conflict and won't be able to attend the event. ;-)
-
Okay NFOA ZRT (Zombie Response Team), I just got word from Bill that we can have as much space as we need at Pandemic for whatever activities we come up with and that as long as we follow the state laws on raffles we can raffle off whatever we want. He sure makes things easy for us, eh?
-
i like all of these ideas. but i have a question, what if someone would get hurt doing one of our events? who's liable? do we need a participant signed waiver?
-

Good question. I'm sure there's an event waiver. I wonder if it would cover us.
-
Agreed, very good question. Let's brainstorm and select some of the best ideas for activities and then we can analyze the injury risk. Depending on the risk, I'll get an advance copy of the waiver participants will sign for Pandemic and see if we'd be covered, then we can proceed from there.
Toby, the big question is, are you going to submit your training program as a possible competition for the booth? :P
-
What about a field strip or disassemble/reassemble your weapon timed event for a side entry thing?
-

Hmmm ... I might be willing to do something along those lines. What if I put together some pieces and parts of my regular workouts and offered up a donation to our PAF for anyone who could complete it?
Hobie Call did something similar here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wrem-aR8P30 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wrem-aR8P30)
-
I'm checking to see if my schedule permits, but if I can attend the shoot I will help in whatever way is needed.
-
OK, I'm in. My wife wants to attend as well and go camping that weekend. Anyone else up for pseudo-roughing it at a nearby campsite?
I make mean biscuits & gravy in the dutch oven.
-
Wow this looks like fun just got done watching some of the vids from the website http://www.zombiesintheheartland.com/ (http://www.zombiesintheheartland.com/)
I would love to come help and mostly get in the way, talked to my wife about it and a nice weekend camping trip sounds like fun.
But we can come and spectate im guessing I only 2 handguns not shotguns or carbines...yet. so no competing in what looks like a 3 gun shoot.
Looks like they have a KOA within minutes but the website doesnt tell me if they allow tents
-
If you need a rifle and shotgun you can use mine. Just bring our own ammo.

That sounds like great idea and way to get buy-in from the rest of the family. Campground with a lake, fishing and swimming would be a sure sell.

I'm in for a zombie green NFOA ZRT shirt! I'll be helping out with prizes at the match.
Suggestion for a shirt design- take the standard NFOA logo, remove the crossed firearms and replace with a biohazard symbol, and remove "NFOA" from the bottom and add "ZRT" or "Zombie Response Team".
For those who never shot 3-gun DO NOT HESITATE. It is a ton of fun, especially at a relatively laid back match like this. Don't worry about winning. Just have fun and be safe.
-
This sounds like fun, I'd be happy to volunteer for whatever is needed.
One thing I thought we could do is have a jar full of loose .22 rounds. $1 allows you to make a guess how many rounds are in the jar. Closest to correct without going over gets the ammo...and NFOA keeps the money. In case of a tie or multiple ties, winners split the ammo equally. Now if we could only find enough .22 shells to fill a jar
It would be kind of cool if a few of us that have odd or unique older rifles to bring a few and have them on display behind the table.
-
I assume there will be some younger kids spectating the event with their parents. Maybe we could also set up some sort of kid friendly shoot...a low power BB gun and paper targets? I know awhile back I looked into organizing a Pinewood Derby race at the Children's Hospital and soda can sized "gold" trophies were only $1.69 each when buying 20 or more. If a BB gun shoot would be too much, we could build something like this:
I have a target holder/BB trap and would be happy to buy a couple of cheap BB guns if you all think this is a good idea. We'd have to create a small safe area and back stop for this of course if we did it.
-
Bump, I took the time off. Even if i dont shoot at anything it will be good for my kids and respectful firearms training and sounds like alot of fun am bringing the whole family and planning on having some good times and meeting folks that tell tall tales over some milk and cookies, while I drink wine of course ;)
-
well, i have to bow out. i just found out my wife's HS reunion is that weekend, so i'll be out of town. :(
-
Random bullet drawing? have a box with just a hole in the top big enough to put your hand inside, and inside the box have a bunch of used brass with the ends painted different colors. Each color would represent the amount they would have to pay for the ticket.
Example
Red = Free
Blue = $1
Black = $5
Green = $10
Or a USPSA Dart throw? Take a USPSA target, set it up at whatever distance and have each zone represent a different number of tickets, 1 dart for $2, 3 darts for $5 or 8 for $10?
That way anyone can participate since it's not based on anything physical (other than throwing a dart lol)
-
I was hoping to make it, but now I'm not sure if I can. If there are still spots available towards the end of April I'll know for sure then.
-
The bug out bag raffle is an excellent idea. You might get vendors to contribute items for it at no cost, or at a reduced cost if you call and ask.
They're selling 300 tickets for the shoot, so expect at least 300 shooters, plus volunteers, staff, spectators, etc.
-
Ok, I haven't weighed in here for awhile. Looks like we have several members that are able to assist in Setup and operating the booth.
We have some good ideas presented for raffle and drawing ideas. Of course we will need to do recruiting and have literature on hand for discussion of key legislative topics.
Nick is putting some ideas together for a banner. I'll grab the file from him and publish that for feedback
-
Do we have a member in or around Grand Island with an enclosed trailer we could use for this event? I could tow from Omaha or Lincoln if necessary but it would be ideal to find a nice trailer already near the event.
-
Bump
I should be available next week if assistance is needed.
Was an enclosed trailer located?
-
Hank you're a life saver. I think we are still looking for one.
-
Hank you're a life saver. I think we are still looking for one.
I was offering assistance if needed but I do not have an enclosed trailer. I do have a open trailer with side boards and if the primary purpose of `covered` was to keep items dry, then we could always use a tarp.
Just send a PM if I can be of any assistance.
-
OK. . . Roll Call! Who is planning on helping out this weekend and which day?
-
Someone mentioned a bb gun idea. Anyone have airsoft guns we could use? Can Airsoft pop balloons?
-
OK. . . Roll Call! Who is planning on helping out this weekend and which day?
I'll be heading out late Friday afternoon and be at our booth all day Saturday. Remember to wear your NFOA t-shirt if you have one!
-
Ive not been following because of the fact I know I'll get wrapped up on the planning and not be able to say no.;). That being said I do have a few bb guns and some air soft pistol. And. Rod, I still have that trap I built for the women's expo...
-
I'd like to, but I'll likely be busy. If for some reason I'm able to make it out, I'll stop by and see if you need any help...
-
So how did this event turn out? I wanted to attend but had to work on-call and cancel my vacation.
