Yep just was watching Cspan and even Harry Reid voted no. A great victory for our cause today!

The Toomey-Manchin compromise Background Check expansion amendment is dead!

Unfortunately Reid's vote is a procedural one that by voting against it, leaves him the option to bring it in again at a later date.

Sen from NY is a douche.  Claiming all officers say concealed carry is bad.  Claiming you can go to FL and get a CCW permit despite being a felon.  ****head.

Cornyn (TX) Amendment (National Reciprocity of CCW)

And Schumer is blasting it with outright lies.......(saying that it would allow felons to get CCW in Florida and come to New York.......TOTAL BULL)

Schumer said that every cop in America will tell you that concealed carry in Times Square would be a disaster. JUST WOW

Dan: hehehehe... feel like we should be sitting on the same couch with popcorn watching it.

Am at work (370 & Fort Crook) watching it online.

Schumer's statements opened up nicely as a possible valid point of contention (States rights) .... but the cop & felon ... just... wow.  How... the... >:D

That's awesome! Great job to everyone who put effort into speaking for "our side". I am still bewildered how us everday citizens have had to fight to protect our Constitution from our very own Government.

Claiming all officers say concealed carry is bad.

She couldn't be further from the truth.  But truth is something those type frown upon.  From what I have read online from Police articles more LEO's support an armed citizen than not.

She couldn't be further from the truth.

He, this was Schmuer (NY) making these comments.

Heard the first bits of Grassley's rebuttal, it was rock solid from what I heard.

Had to do work stuff ... didn't get to hear the call.  Glad it got defeated \o/

Now Harry Reid is trying to shame the Republicans for not voting to expand background checks by using the victims again. He says its not over and that this is just the beginning.

Now Manchin is using the families and teary eyed victims. This is disgusting how they are portraying that the amendment was common sense. They completely ignore the other garbage that was in it which would have reduced our rights.

A number of other amendments also failed to earn the 60 votes necessary to pass: A GOP proposal including a number of changes, 52 to 48; a bipartisan amendment to stiffen penalties for “straw purchasers,” 58 to 42; a GOP-backed amendment that would have permitted “national reciprocity” of state-issued concealed carry permits, 57 to 43; a GOP plan to extend gun rights for veterans, including those deemed unable to manage their financial affairs, 56-44; and a Democratic amendment to limit the size of ammunition magazines, 54-46.

• Manchin-Toomey amendment
• Grassley substitute amendment: would provide more money for school safety, for stepped-up prosecution of felons, and for mental health; stepped-up prosecutions of felons who try to get guns; allow interstate transport of guns
• Leahy-Collins amendment: would impose tougher penalties on gun trafficking and straw purchasers
• Cornyn amendment: would federalize interstate reciprocity for concealed-carry permits
• Feinstein amendment: would ban assault weapons and impose an ammunition magazine limit of 10 rounds
• Burr amendment: would mandate that people can only be barred from buying firearms for mental health reasons when a judicial authority has made that determination
• Lautenberg-Blumenthal amendment: would impose a limit of 10 rounds in ammunition magazines
• Barrasso amendment: would penalize states and constituent jurisdictions for releasing gun data regarding private citizens
• Harkin-Alexander amendment: Mental health programs in schools

Reading the text of the Collins amendment... uhhhh.... that's an AWB, not a straw purchase thing.  WTF ?

Got this from NRA:

Today, the misguided Manchin-Toomey-Schumer proposal failed 54-46 in the U.S. Senate. Six other amendments were also defeated:

Grassley-Cruz-Graham substitute amendment – Failed 52-48
Leahy-Collins trafficking amendment – Failed 58-42
Cornyn right-to-carry reciprocity amendment – Failed 57-43
Feinstein gun & magazine ban amendment – Failed 40-60
Burr protection of veterans’ gun rights amendment – Failed 56-44
Launtenberg-Blumenthal magazine ban amendment – Failed 46-54

I am still bewildered how us everday citizens have had to fight to protect our Constitution from our very own Government.

Like I said at the 2A rally a few months  ago, in my entire life (72yrs) I NEVER thought I would have to stand up and defend the Constitution.  It just goes to show how deeply the LSM has embedded themselves into our schools, entertainment, news media and all three branches of government.  There are SO MANY office  holders who lied when they raised  their right hand and took their oath of office.  Hopefully, some day, there will be an accounting.

Sen. Johanns sent out an email saying that he cosponsored this bill, in order to supposedly protect the 2nd Amendment.  I sent him the following email:

I read your email about protecting the 2nd Amendment.  I'm glad the bill failed, and you should not have cosponsored it, or supported it.  I hope you avoid doing that sort of thing in any future attempt at gun control, because that bill was nothing more than kowtowing before the altar of gun control; you just didn't appear to bow quite as low as the liberal cult originally commanded you to bow.

Anti-gun bigots have a history of using sleazy tactics like bait and switch.  Any gun control law that Obama would sign will be bad for freedom, or he wouldn't sign it.  And that includes this one.

There is already too much gun control, not too little, and loyal Americans in both houses of Congress should be addressing that problem, not adding to it.

Any Senator who is serious about keeping guns out of the hands of criminals should be doing everything in his power to keep the Fast and Furious investigation on a front burner, which includes stopping the cover-up and prosecuting Eric Holder for the crimes he committed.  Allowing these crimes to go unpunished while further restricting the rights of law-abiding citizens is nothing but kowtowing to the liars of the liberal press.

Sen. Johanns sent out an email saying that he cosponsored this bill, in order to supposedly protect the 2nd Amendment.  I sent him the following email:

depserv, nice letter but it is a little misplaced, Johanns cosponsored another bill that deals with mental health and criminals, not the background check bill.

This is the problem with so many bills and letters coming from so many different places and they all are saying things about protecting your Second Amendment rights, we just get confused because they are all so similar in numbering as well as what people say about them.
