Title: NE CHP numbers
Post by: OnTheFly on April 21, 2013, 11:11:03 AM
I just renewed my NE CHP this month.  When I was originally issued my CHP in 2008, my permit number was 622, but my new permit number for 2013 is almost 4,300.  Does anyone know how many CHPs were issued in 2012?

Regardless, it looks like there has been a significant increase in permits issued over the last five years, or possible in the last few months due to the political climate.

Mine was issued 11 days and about 800 permits later.

Anyone else want to post up when they got their permit in 2013 and what their approximate number is?

Hmmmm...maybe I am doing my math wrong, but that's not what I come up with.

They issued ~800 permits over the eleven days between when your permit was issued and mine was issued.  That's an average of about 73 permits a day or 26,645 over a year.

From the issuance of M7025-06's permit to mine was 48 days and 3,100 permits.  That is about 65 permits a day or 23,725 a year.

Of course those are just rough estimates, but I would say we are on schedule to have well over 20,000 permits issued in Nebraska this year.

So my question is, and maybe AAllen or someone else knows the answer to this, how many permits have been issued in previous years?

I did a quick google search...15,200 permits active as of 9-26-11 (an average of about 3,000 per year since '07).

Not sure if that's what you were looking for Fly.

Found this too...

Looks like 16,100 permits had been issued as of the end of Jan '12.

How did you come up with 3,000 per year?

I thought, but maybe I am wrong, that the Nebraska permit numbers start back at 0 each year.  For example, the first permit issued in 2013 would have a permit number of 201300001.  If so, then my permit near 4,300 would be the 4,2xxth permit issued in 2013.  Subsequently, that would mean they issue WAY more than 3,000 per year.

Direct fact from the NE State Patrol.....    As of June 1, 2012, there are currently 17,171 active conceal carry permits in Nebraska.

I have not asked for a while (obviously almost a year), so I will see if I can get some current stats and will post here

15,100 permits issued in 5 years ('07 thru '11) = approximately 3,000/year.  The link gave a total up to 9-26-2011.

Ahhh...gotcha.  That is the average increase in permits issued since the beginning of CC in Nebraska.

Thanks Chris.  How forthcoming are they with that information?  Can they just provide the monthly stats since the beginning of CC in Nebraska?  I'm curious how it has grown monthly in the past, and maybe more so, how the permits issued has grown in the last year.

I'm not sure I can get that detailed of data..... Might be pushing my luck. But I can likely get the valid # of permits. NSP will not comment on how many have been revoked/suspended, etc...... Which probably is a good thing when it comes to info the knothead media doesn't need to know

Understood.  I'm sure their staffing level combined with the bureaucratic pace of work, means they will be hard pressed to put that kind of effort into it.

Thanks Chris!

So on June 1, 2012 there were 17,171 permits, and as of June 1, 2013 there were 21,782 Nebraska CHPs. That's an increase of 4,611 in 10 months. Assuming permits issued since the inception of CHP in Nebraska has been relatively constant (BIG assumption here), it appears there has been a surge in permits compared to M7025-06's estimate of 3,000 per year.

If that is correct, I wonder why there would be a surge over the last several months?  Huh...that is a brain teaser there. A real conundrum. Gosh...it's beyond me.  ::)
