Title: First Contact With LEO As Nebraska CHP Holder
Post by: Gary on May 06, 2013, 08:23:08 PM
Today I contacted 441-6000, information number of the Lincoln Police, to report transient trespassers.  Called them twice, on the same guy that kept returning.  First contact was just over the phone, second contact, and officer came in to ask me if I would press charges.  I did.

Immediately, I politely interrupted the officer to inform him I was a CHP and I had a handgun in an ankle holster.  He paused ever so briefly to make a mental note of my statement, and continued on, not even acknowledging my statement.

Hope all my CHP / LEO contacts go so well.

This was inside my place of business, and I had called them.  I would envision, a traffic stop, where the officer does not know the contacted driver, would bring into play, more along the CHP subject.

I also had my first contact.  Witnessed a hit and run accident.  Gave the LEO the description and plate of the vehicle.  He asked for my name, phone and address but did not ask for my identification.  I did not volunteer any more.  If he had requested identification, I would have showed him the CHP.

I will be following the statute to the letter.

Title 272 – NEBRASKA STATE PATROL
Chapter 21 – Concealed Handgun Permits

019.02  A permit holder carrying a concealed handgun who is officially contacted by
any peace officer or emergency services personnel must immediately inform
the peace officer or emergency service personnel of the concealed handgun
unless physically unable to do so.

He was in official contact with an officer on official duty stuff, thus you declare.

edit:

I've had a few contacts, bellevue and omaha police, it's all been peaceful and generally fun (discuss what kind of weapon it is, if like it, etc).
