Last summer I purchased a Colt Match HBAR with the intent of using it in High Power matches. The rear sight on this rifle wobbles and is not square with the receiver/carry handle(see picture). I attempted to replace it with a Northern Competition rear sight hoping that this would fix the problem. It does not appear that I have the skill necessary to install this sight though. The fit was way too tight (clearance between front of rear sight/ball and carry handle) and I am not sure where on the sight to remove material to make it fit. As I am planning on attending a shooting clinic in early June I decided that I would just put the original sight back on for the time being. The problem I have now is that the original rear sight does not seem to spring back to the same position each time I move it with my fingers.
Does anyone know of a good gunsmith around Lincoln that could install and pin the northern competition sight on the rifle? It appears that I am now running out of time and will not be able to use this rifle in the upcoming clinic as desired.

There is a spring and ball bearing in the rear sight that gives it that wobble that you probably at first thought was wrong. It automatically cants it so that does not sit square on the carry handle. Without being able to see the picture you posted it is hard to tell. But if the elevation and windage moved freely it was probably normal. Are you sure when you put the original sight back on you got the spring and the ball bearings in there correctly. They are very small and can be a pain in the arse.

I'm pretty sure I put the ball and spring back in correctly. The ball seated over the top of the spring with a little grease.
