Title: UT* CFP Typo
Post by: rudy on June 01, 2013, 01:58:14 PM
I got my UT Concealed Firearm Permit in the mail today, but it has a mistake on it.  Everything is correct except for the state, it lists "NB" instead of "NE".  Should I just forget about it or give them a call?  I'm not sure if it warrants worrying about.

Edited to fix: this is on my UTAH permit, not Nebraska, brain fart!  Sorry

Call them or it may be considered invalid.  Ensure they get your replacement on the spot.  Probably call then go in.

While you're at it, please ask them to fix my Utah permit, also.

Because NB is listed on my Utah permit for ST [State].

FWIW, before the USPS came out with their abbreviations for the various states, NB was the abbreviation most often used across the USA as the abbreviation for Nebraska.

Just checked and my UT permit has the state listed as 'NB' also....Good Grief!   For all the fine toothed background checking that goes on, I find it almost humorous that a State agency does not know the state abbreviations for the rest of the U.S. ?

Yep...NB is how they abbreviate it in Utah.  My previous and current UT CHP are the same.

Sent an email to the Utah BCI about the "NB" abbreviation....  This is their response.

No, your permit is fine.  The FBI uses NB as the abbreviation for Nebraska so that is why your permit shows that.

Not to resurrect a dead thread, but I just received my Utah permit and it was pretty laughable...I became a female, 8" shorter in height, lighter in weight and black hair.  My picture, name, address, DOB and everything else was correct.

It does concern me that there was this much inaccuracy though.  However, they were very quick to change the information and said they will mail out a new card on the next business day.

OK, if "NB" is the Federal abreviation for Nebraska, why does my Nebraska permit list it as "NE"?

OK, if "NB" is the Federal abreviation for Nebraska, why does my Nebraska permit list it as "NE"?

It is apparently just the list of abbreviations UT has decided to use on their CHP's while Nebraska chose to use another list (USPS?).  Kind of like the phonetic alphabet...Aviation uses one set (which is the correct and only acceptable list) while others (LEO's for example) may use another (incorrect) list.
