DON'T CHASE AFTER THE BAD GUYS !!!  DON'T SHOOT AT THEM RUNNING DOWN THE STREET !!!   You will likely regret your actions if 1) you kill the BG 2) charged with assault with a deadly weapon and/or 3) discharging a firearm within the city limits (and in Omaha you probably ain't gonna see the gun again).  May stink to some of you, but that is the way it usually goes down.  It's just "stuff" in the eyes of a jury and good prosecutor.

Yeah, if he left his house and chased them down he'll probably wind up getting charged with something. Though let that be a lesson to potential home invaders, the guy who's house you're breaking into may just be crazier than you

Much as I hate to agree with a Texan on anything, I'll swallow my pride here and +1. :)

You can bet that Shotgun (Homeowners) will be permanently marked down in the "OPD count of guns taken off the street", and he will never see that again.

He'll see it again, it'll just be sitting on a table after a gun buyback while OPD shows off all the guns they got off the street.

News just reported that the homeowner ditched the shotgun in some bushes and along with a jar full of change some marijuana was also stolen in the robbery.

Seems some may have started the OPD bashing a bit prematurely.

I wasn't bashing OPD, and for the record I wasn't defending the homeowner in this case. Based on the news story I read (which we all know how reliable news media reports sometimes are), it appears that this homeowner was pursuing the intruders and engaged them as they were fleeing..... IF this was the case, then it appears the homeowner was in the wrong, and will likely be charged with a crime (such as discharging a firearm in the city, attempted assault, etc.....) and will not be getting this gun back.

I was simply stating the fact that this homeowner would never see this gun again, and it would be counted as one taken off the streets.

IF the fact that the homeowner was hiding the gun and his dope, as you stated the media is now reporting..... Then he definitely has some problems ahead

Yes I am openly critical of OPD often, I have had too many negative experiences when I lived in Omaha.... And continue to see things that cause me to not trust them. I have a major lack of trust for that Dept. Sorry, I know you work closely with them, and you have a whole different perspective and experience with them than I do.

Oddly enough, the only experience I've had with OPD was pretty positive. I was involved in a car accident and when he was running my info he showed me how my carry permit showed up in their system (It shows up as a warning in large red letters by the way). But he was pretty cool about it and we talked about guns for a little bit.

Well, what do you think that the OPD is waiting for?

OPD doesn't file charges........ They make the arrest.... City Prosecutor or County Attorney files the charges based on if they believe there is enough evidence to proceed.

Of course charges may have been filed, but the news hasn't reported it yet
