Flat nose 9mm?
« on: September 20, 2013, 09:35:07 AM »
Hello, I have a question about 9mm target ammo.
Does anyone sell target loads that are flat nosed like a lot of the 40cal target loads I see?
The reason I ask is I have 2 magazines for my 5906 that are aftermarket and they do not accept target roundnose 9mm, the very tip of the bullet hits the front edge of the magazine and they bind up in there and won't load. Speer gold-dots feed fine in these mags as they are just slightly shorter than the target loads, but I hate to waste defense ammo for target shooting.
Alternately could I sand the point blunt on the target bullets I load in these mags? I am talking maybe only taking 1mm off the tip.
Don't be afraid to tell me if this is a silly/unsafe idea.
If you own a 5906 stick with the S&W or Mec-gar magazines, the ones I am having trouble with are 20 rd.
K-brand.

Thanks Greg58

Pretty sure that the 147gr are flat nose, not sure about 124's.

In the long run, probably cheaper to get proper functioning mags and not have to worry about if you have the right ammo in the right mags. ( I have some experience on that subject ) ;D

Then just use the cheaper 115's and no worries.

I have a motive for wanting to find target loads that will work in these mags. I want to use the 20 rd mags in the Zombie shoot.
My Gold-dots are 147gr and they feed fine in these mags.
Thanks Greg

You should compare a few brands of ammo for cartridge length.  The overall length can vary between brands.

Thanks Rod, that is what I did and I found a box of Rem. yellow box that I had never opened, they are not as pointy and are about 1-2 mm shorter overall, and loaded fine in these mags.
Thanks Greg

I'm working on that, my son is loading 40 cal. and wants me to buy the dies and he will load 9mm for me.
He has the patience to be good at such things.
