Lincoln Ike's Black Rifle challenge
« on: March 17, 2014, 07:29:19 PM »
Shooters,

The Lincoln Izaak Walton is hosting an event to knock the dust off your AR-15s and shoot some targets at 200 and 300 yards.  It is a short 30-round course being held April 6th & May 25th.  The cost is $10 each time.  You will be shooting at both Metal Silhouettes and Paper targets from the Bench, Sitting, and Prone.  The course is designed to be easy enough for beginners to have fun and challenging enough for experienced shooters to try for perfection.

One of the main intents is to gather the multitude of beginning shooters who bought or built an AR-15 and get them comfortable with the idea of "match" shooting.  We experienced shooters will be around to offer guidance, talk guns, and rope new shooters into the fold.

You should see this event pop up on Lincoln Ikes website sometime after Tuesday, the 11th.   I'm getting a jump on advertising and drumming up excitement. Mike, Chris, and I will be testing targets and working the details of how many shooters we can run at a time.  The match should take 1 or 2  hours to shoot for each shooter.  If there is great interest we will possibly extend the Challenge through the summer.  Share the flyer with anyone you know who ought to be out shooting!

Watch for more information about the match in the March Ike's news letter.

Sounds fun, might have to give it a try.
The master has failed more than the beginner has even tried.

Since I don't see sights mentioned at all, I assume any optics qualify????

The attachment says there will be two divisions, iron sights only and any optic

I guess I missed that.  I thought I read it completely.  Oh well.  :)

Man, I'm gonna have to miss this--the first date is a USPSA match, and the second date I'll be in another state.  Drat!  This looks like fun!

This ladies and gents, is the definitiion of a "waffle" post. :)

I might make it out, provided NFA branch gets me a stamp...I'l feel a bit out of place shooting this with an AR pistol.
It is highly likely the above post may offend you. I'm fine with that.

SO it says...

Quote
Please limit your caliber and bullet type

so no hushpuppies then?.... :P

On a serious note are they limiting it to 556/223? Is 6.8 allowable?

Well, it says "Please limit your caliber and bullet type to prevent drilling holes in the metal targets." So 6.8 should be fine.  I'm guessing if you show up with some 62gr green tip and punch a hole in the steel you'll be having words with the RO.

I'm going to try to make this, not sure if I can or not.  I need to get sighted in for my prairie dog trip this summer so I might as well kill two birds with one stone.

I assume they have that in there so their steel doesn't take a beating. If I get my stamps back in time, I would love to bring a 300blk SBR with a suppressor. Can anyone involved with Ikes comment on allowed calibers? I might have to arc the subsonic rounds like a rainbow, though. :)

Many. Just don't damage the metal target at 200 yards. It is T1 steel.

Not sure many might be nope...

So like bokenig said nothing steel Penetrating should be good to go...

I asked Ben and he said he doesn't see a issue with a 308. These targets are usually set up on the 300y range and take 308 hits all the time. The RO concern was the smaller 556 drilling holes in the steel at 200y.

He also asked me to post that the Lake City Green Tip are typically deep penetrating. The way I look at it if a magnet sticks leave it at home!

You mean Dick can shoot his Blackout...:)

besides, NFA branch has 2 more weeks before I cancel my Form. That will put it at nearly 5 months for an eFiled form. 1rst of April, I'll replace the 10.5" with a 16". (Yes, i'm an impatient bugger)
