Eric Holder Jr., the nation's first black U.S. attorney general, is preparing to announce his resignation Thursday after a tumultuous tenure marked by civil rights advances, national security threats, reforms to the criminal justice system and five and a half years of fights with Republicans in Congress.

Two sources familiar with the decision tell NPR that Holder, 63, intends to leave the Justice Department as soon as his successor is confirmed, a process that could run through 2014 and even into next year. A former U.S. government official says Holder has been increasingly "adamant" about his desire to leave soon for fear he otherwise could be locked in to stay for much of the rest of President Obama's second term.

The contempt of Congress case against Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. — the first sitting Cabinet member ever to face such a congressional rebuke — will continue even after his resignation takes effect, but it’s unlikely he will ever face personal punishment, legal analysts said Thursday.   :(

About 6 years too late.

Hopefully the next administration will prosecute him for all the crimes he's committed while in office, but I'm about 99% certain it won't happen.

He must of been selective on what civil rights he made advances for, I can't think of one positive thing the racist a$$hole did for my fundamental basic 2nd. Amendment civil rights.

There's been speculation, since just yesterday Ginsburg stated she wouldn't retire because she didn't think Obama could replace her with a sufficiently liberal justice.

IMO there's no way he would make it through confirmation.  He's way too controversial.

So when BarryO finally gets around to handing out his presidential pardons, will those pardons have to be specifically worded, or just a vague "blanket immunity"?  I just wonder that if a new congress starts making noises about continuing the on going investigations, will BarryO have to finally come out and list "EHolder is pardoned for a) obstruction of justice in IRS investigation, b) illegal weapons transfer in Fast & Furious, etc, etc...."?  It could be the only way we get a true accounting of all the crap this administration has facilitated or allowed to occur.
