I think France had a head cometh off machine before Ohio.

It worked very quickly and cleanly as well.  Witnesses say that on occasions people would see the eyes of the victim looking around for a few seconds before they stopped moving and/or the eyelids closed.   The victim will not be aware that their heart continues to beat until exsanguination stops it, probably 15-30 seconds after head separation.  About 10% of the Oxygen breathed in goes to the brain but generally a rapid loss of blood pressure to the brain induces an equally quick loss of consciousness.   The victim might not feel anything if the blade is sharp  enough.  How often have you accidentally cut yourself with a sharp instrument and not felt anything but noticed some blood later on?

My Grandma Koenig was the sweetest lady I've ever known.  She was active in her church, involved in charities, taught illiterate adults to read, etc.  Absolutely a beautiful human being.

But turn her loose in a pen full of chickens and she would make Charles Manson look like Ghandi.  She'd put those chicken's necks under a stick, stand on it, yank on the feet, and the head would go flying.  It was absolute carnage every year when it was time to butcher chickens.  Blood everywhere, the ground was littered with chicken heads gasping for air as their eyes glazed over, wondering why this wonderful woman who had fed and cared for them all these months had suddenly turned on them.

That's the first thing I thought of when I watched this video. ;D

I'm old fashioned and a fan of the classics.  Give'em the rope with the length of drop adjusted according to severity of the crime.  The worse the crime, the shorter the drop.

Even with a broken neck death is usually caused by asphyxiation.

If the drop were long enough it might even turn into a head puller.
