Happens from time to time.

Few years back, house blew up in Omaha.   Prosecutor tried to say the owner sabotaged the house for insurance purposes, since his business was in trouble.

Went back and forth in the Omaha World-Herald for a while.   City Hall finally got tired of it and the case just drifted away.  (Someone finally figgered that he woulda blown up the business, not the house.)

But the homeowner was in quite a bind for a while.   Excess attention from the authorities can be a hard experience.

Back in January of 1975, in Central City,  a meat packer was closing up his business and at the moment he was closing his back door they surmise that he threw a cigarette down and it set off a propane leak that had filled up the basement of his businesses.  This happened in mid-January and the evening and nighttime temps were below zero.  The resulting explosion and fire destroyed his building and the rest of the entire block in center of town.  The frame of the building lifted off of its foundation, he was drawn partially into it, and the building trapped him across the waist.   He lower half was burned completely off.  The firetrucks were hampered by frozen water everywhere, and frozen fire hydrants.   I lost 200 lbs of Deer meat which I had stored in one of his lockers.

Selective Demolition:

Propane and butane are heavier than air.   These gases sink to the basement.   Then Ka-boom from the bottom-up.

Natural gas is slightly lighter than air, even though it gets mixed w/propane and/or butane in some formulations.

So---natural gas rises to the highest level.   And then blows its top.

Can be spectacular, either way.
