Chadron Councilman Wants To Allow Guns At Meetings

Gamby brought up the issue during council comments, when no action can be taken, but both City Manager Wayne Anderson and Mayor Paris Fisher agreed that the gun-free status would be discussed at a future meeting.

If you lose one sense, the other senses become enhanced.  Sorta like when someone has no sense of humor....their sense of  self inportance is greatly increased.

I respect the councilman for raising the issue, and I agree with him philosophically.  However, I think the law is pretty clear that you can't legally carry a concealed handgun at a city council meeting, no matter what the city council has to say about it.  I don't see any exception for this in Neb. Rev. Stat. sec. 69-2441(1)(a).

Today, we need a nation of Minutemen, citizens who are not only prepared to take arms, but citizens who regard the preservation of freedom as the basic purpose of their daily life and who are willing to consciously work and sacrifice for that freedom.   J. F. K.

The article clearly states that they can waive the restriction.

Then, open carry on.

Mntnman...maybe you are joking and I'm not detecting the sarcasm, but if not...

Regardless of what the council members or the writer states, what statute allows a government agency to waive those restrictions?

From what I can find, carrying concealed at a city council meeting, among others, is strictly prohibited and no one has the authority to waive it.

After re-reading the article, it doesn't mention concealed carry.  I assumed that's what they were talking about, and if so, it's not legally possible for the city council to allow it (I'll stand by my first response).  The council may be able to allow open carry if it wants, but I'm not sure that was prohibited in the first place.

The council met last night and agreed to prepare a resolution repealing or modifying the city's current rules. Councilman Gamby wants to do away with the gun free zones on city property. I spoke at the meeting in support of Dr. Gambys action and all members of the council except one agreed. Councilman Miles Bannan felt  taking down the signs would not be in the cities best interest as it would allow open carry in the council meetings and result in a shootout at the ok corral if an incident occurred.(As if the sign would prevent an incident)   http://www.chadrad.com/newsstory.cfm?story=38589

ya it's funny how those BS signs make people feel all safe , warm and fuzzy inside.... thats why most of us don't shop in stores that have those signs on the doors. we know they are not a deterrent.
I will allow myself one personal observation. If you want to disarm yourself, that is your choice. The following quote is a favorite of mine and something to keep in mind when you make that choice.

“Sheep don’t tell wolves what’s for dinner.”

Thank you for taking the time and talking at the meeting.

I would like to ask if people follow signs, then why do people speed and get tickets? Signs are nothing but a feel good measure that protects no one.
