As I have mentioned before, assault weapons is a slogan and a lie. An accurate term for what is being referred to by that term is 20th Century arms, because the guns that are still allowed (for now) are all pre-20th Century designs, and because they are arms instead of things used just for fun (as in sporting purpose). The purpose of these edicts is to disarm the American people through obsolescence.
Could 19th Century arms be next? Why not? Once we have been disarmed of 20th Century arms it really doesn't matter. And you don't need a repeating rifle to hunt deer. You don't need ball and cap either; if flintlock was good enough for the first Americans it's good enough for us. And as long as some of us can have some kind of rifle, the American people haven't been disarmed, right?
We should not be using the enemy's slogans, except to point out the lie in them. We should be referring to what is being targeted by these illegal edicts as what they are: 20th Century arms. Making the truth known is the best counter-propaganda, and that makes getting the truth out the best strategy to use in defending the Republic from those levying war against it.
