Need Springfield XD armorer
« on: March 25, 2010, 09:05:08 PM »
I have a 4" Springfield XD that I foolishly had a gunsmith put new sights on. He did a really bad job the first time, so I took it back for him to fix,and he pinned them in to place, they are not even close to being on target!  I need someone to fix the problem as I love my gun, but it is pretty much useless if the sights are not even close to being correct.  Anyone know of a good gunsmith/armorer to help me out??  THANKS!

The Bullet Hole in Pappillion has Springfield certified technicians, but I cant speak for their abilities.  Otherwise you could try Carl Jarl in Omaha at 108th and Ist, they have a fairly good gun smith there.

I'll have to check with the bullet hole. Carl Jarl was the one I took it to first. :(  Thanks!

Julie-

You could call Springfield Armory and ask them if they can help. Maybe you can ship the slide to them and ask them to fix?

I thought about the Chris.  I might just have to do that.  I figure I'll check with the Bullet Hole since they are local. If they are at all "iffy", I'll see if Springfield can fix it.

Julie, I too have an XD 4" and the slide finish kind of "faded" for lack of a better term. I called Springfield and sent them the slide. They refinished it and had it back to me in around 2 weeks. I really do suggest sending the slide and sights to Springfield. I am sure they wil  help you out. I think they offer great customer service. They helped me out when I foolishly put in aftermarket recoil springs and the slide locked up. I called them and told  them the slide was locked up,  the tech I talked to told me what I did regarding the aftermarket springs,  before I even had a chance to tell him. I am sure you will not be dissapointed with the service they provide.

I actually took it to the Bullet Hole and their gunsmith did an excellent job!  He even gave me a written report of the botch job that was originally done so that I can officially complain!  I'm not happy about the price I spent on sights at the Hole, but the gunsmith charge was VERY REASONABLE!  I would definitely use his services for my XD's in the future, but buy my parts somewhere else first!

I am curious as to whom the Bullet Hole's gunsmith is?

This is good to know since I've contemplated putting night sights on my XD.

Good heads up on Carl jarl. Glad you got your problem resolved. How is your XD holding up? I am contemplating one for my next purchase. Just shot a friends new XDm 9 and it was awesome! Great shooting pistol!

I have an XD-40 subcompact, and its the best pistol I own.  It is the weapon I choose most often for CC.

Those were what I HAD on my XD before Carl Jarl killed it.  I have tritium sights on it now, and it is great!  The XD is an awesome gun!  I have a couple different ones and love them all!!!  The gunsmith working out of the Bullet Hole (I don't remember his name) is awesome.  He did an outstanding job for me.  He put the sights on that I bought (don't buy them at the hole - they are EXPENSIVE!). However, when he called me about the gun, he said that he would suggest only putting the tritium on the front sight and leave the back sight black, that way your eye automatically zeroes in on the front site.  When I do my other guns' sights, that's what I'll do.
