Gunsmith needed for Winchester model 52
« on: May 08, 2025, 12:57:45 PM »
Hello,

I recently inherited a Winchester Model 52 Sporting from 1941. The rifle is in good shape for the most part but the magazine release is not functioning correctly. Does anyone know of a good gunsmith within 50 miles of Omaha that can repair this? Thanks in advance!

I am not a gunsmith, but I am willing to take some photos of my 52C's magazine release so you can see what it is supposed to look like if you think that would help.

From what I am remembering it is fairly simple.

Attached is a PDF of the magazine release for the M52.  I tried to get a picture of the small spring that powers it, but the only way would be to completely disassemble the magazine release and then it wouldn't show how it fits.

With the tight tolerances inside the magazine well and the magazine release, my best guess is there is some crud in yours that needs to be flushed out.  If it was my rifle, I would remove the rifle from the stock and then try soaking the area between the magazine release and the magazine well with penetrating oil and blowing out with compressed air.

If that doesn't work, then the spring is probably missing/damaged.

I hope this helps,
