Good News from the NSP - CCW as Purchase Permit
« on: April 25, 2011, 12:59:49 PM »
Please see the attached from the ATF.  They have responded to the States May 2010 request regarding LB 817 (2010) with the following:

ATF has reviewed Nebraska's Concealed Handgun Permit Act, as amended by Legislative Bill 817 in 2010, and has determined that Nebraska's Concealed Handgun Permit does qualify as an alternative to the background check required by the Brady law.  As such, ATF will be sending an Open Letter to all Nebraska FFLs advising them of this determination.

We have received no indication from the ATF when the open letter will be sent to the Nebraska FFL’s but wanted to share this bit of good news with you.  Below is a link to LB 817 for your information.

Not sure we can take credit for getting it done........

I did write a letter to Senator Johanns asking him to light a fire under the ATF since they finally just got KS done..... But not sure if Johanns did anything that quickly, or if it was just simple dumb luck that the ATF finally got it done.

Now, how long will it take for them to notify Nebraska FFL's???????? Because until we (FFL's) get that letter from the ATF, we cannot implement this

Great news, can private sales with CCW in lieu of Purchase permit take place now or has that already been in place?

Looks like we may need to get the date of jan 1 2005 taken out of statute 69-2433(2) to avoid future issues.

Private sales already could, only FFL dealers are required to do the NICS check. When state law was changed that took care of it for private sales

It was Ben Nelson with the assistance of the "Cobra" from their secret lair in the North Omaha barbershop that lit the fire under the BATFE....NOT !!!!! But I bet Big Ben would like to take credit for such

Only if you buy guns from stores that set their own rules and don't take the time to keep up with the changes. Such as Guns Unlimited or Scheels

Dollars to doughnuts, he will try to take credit for it.  Kinda like the commercial I heard where Nelson took credit for leading the movement to remove the 1099 reporting requirements of Obamacare.  You know, the same Obamacare that would not have passed if Nelson had not voted for it?

He claimed that in an email newsletter he sent out the other day.  I sent him a rather nasty email in reply to that newsletter.  Not that he read it, but it made me feel better.

Actually, I am pretty sure GU will allow this. A salesman there today mention receiving the letter from the ATF.

It's too bad they won't get on board and even put an NFOA sticker in their window.   I took one over there with a stack of brochures over a year ago.  Never seen either again in the last few months that I stopped by there.

Can't say I'm surprised

I quit going to GU about a year ago. I don't spend $20k on shotguns, and don't like being treated like dirt because I'm only looking at pistols.

Tried to have a conversation with the guy working behind the counter about the changes of LB 817 and he was ignorant, however acted like he knew everything
