Are you doing your part?
« on: January 24, 2012, 01:39:51 PM »
Just wondering if everyone is doing their part to support these statistics?    ;D

Quote
Manasquan, NJ --(Ammoland.com)- Recent statistics released by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) report that for nineteen straight months, and that includes all of 2011, American men & women bought over 10,800,000 plus firearms.

This number based on the FBI National Instant Criminal Background Check System, better know as NICS, and is the adjusted NICS data derived by the NSSF research division subtracting out NICS purpose code permit checks used by several states such as Kentucky, Iowa and Utah for carrying concealed weapon (CCW) permit application checks as well as checks on active CCW permit databases.

The final number, of 10,800,000, is considered conservative by experts because the this number does not account for the multiple purchase of guns at the same time or the guns bought and sold legally, person to person by US residents, which rightly so, do not require a back ground check.

Ten Million new gun owners, in just 2011, should be a wake up call to our current President...

I'm not sure how these figures were compiled, but that may not indicate an increase in gun owners or guns.  If these were used guns, then someone else gave them up, and if the buyer was already a gun owner, the total number of gun owners didn't change.  However, given the suggested discrepancies in the numbers (private sales, multiple purchases, etc.), it's not hard to believe the total number of gun owners probably did increase to some extent.

Forgot to post the link to that story...

http://www.ammoland.com/2012/01/04/free-americans-buy-10800000-guns-in-2011-dont-f-with-usa/

A & H,  I know several people locally that bought their first firearm the past couple of years.  That's just in my small circle of acquaintances.   Nationwide, I think deteriorating world and national conditions has spurred a fair amount of new gun ownership.  Can't give you any scientific proof though.

I don't doubt gun ownership has increased, both in numbers of guns and numbers of gun owners.  I just meant the figures cited don't necessarily translate to the conclusion of 10,000,000 new gun owners in one year.  :)

I agree with you. If that was the case, it'd mean that non of us previous gun owners acquired any more.   :o

Well, let's see, by my count, since Obummer has been in office, I went from a pistol, a shotgun, a rifle, to no less than 4 each. Not including those I have traded around.  I would have to go to the safe to double check how many .22 rifles I have....

I've bought a couple, but this year I'm really hoping to help boost the numbers. I'd like to acquire an AK-47, a compact 1911 and a couple more .22 rifles. And a ****-ton of ammo for each.
On that note, if any of you happen to have an AK for a reasonable price, please let me know. Lately I've only been coming across the 'spensive versions. :(

I bought so many when I first got my CHP, I don't need any more.  :(  My wife thinks one or two of every caliber is plenty.  :(

NEED? Since when did "need" factor into this? :)

OOBUCK

i thought about "need" when I wrote it.  I didn't "need" the guns I did buy.  I'm mean it's not like I live in the wilderness and survive on venison or hare.  Then again, you could call it a psychological need.  Like, "Look wifey, this is the most powerful handgun in the world.  I need to have this gun!"

On a side note, I wonder if the sale of Gun Safes is also at record pace ?
