First ENPS Steel Challenge match of 2013: Sunday, January 20th
« on: January 06, 2013, 05:46:43 PM »
First steel challenge match of the year is coming up soon!  Sunday, January 20th, the Eastern Nebraska Practical Shooters will be setting up 6 official Steel Challenge stages--and since we are an officially-affiliated club, if you have a SC membership make sure to tell us your member number so that when we upload your scores they go to the right place!

Remember, we have rimfire pistol, rimfire rifle, and centerfire pistol divisions this year---surely you've got SOMETHING you'd like to shoot.   (C'mon, you KNOW you want to try this with your tricked-out red-dot Ruger 10/22...)

Remember, rimfire or centerfire OPEN divisions can have compensators and optical sights---but non-open division folks can't have either.

If you need more details, check out the Introduction to Steel Challenge post here:  http://nebraskafirearms.org/forum/index.php/topic,6854.msg48797.html#msg48797

Setup and registration for ENPS matches start at 7:15am, registration closes at 8:40, new shooter/safety briefing is at 8:40, match meeting is at 9:00am, and we start shooting right after that.  $15 for the match.

Matches are held at the Eastern Nebraska Gun Club at 12700 Nebraska 66, Louisville, NE.

If you decide to shoot the match, please come help set up and tear down.  We are normally done with the match and have everything put away by 1:30 or 2pm, whereupon we head into Louisville for lunch.  :)

Last year we had 44 people show up for the January match---let's try to break that record, shall we?

i would like to shoot rimfire rifle...

Bring it on out!

(Sigh)  I wish I could shoot it twice---I want to shoot Production division because that is what I enjoy the most, but I'd really like to shoot Rimfire Open Rifle, too!

For those who are going to ask---no, we can't run people through twice.  We just don't have time.  You have to pick just one division to shoot each match.  Yeah, I think that is too bad, too.  :(

LOL. Single-shot, bolt-action rifles are all the rage. Bring one of those. That way I'll have a chance of beating at least one person.  :P

Just a comments for folks planning on bring along .22 rifles to shoot---you are going to need to bring a bag/case for them to use between shooting stages.  We don't have a long-gun rack on every stage, so you'll need something to bag them with when you are done shooting a stage, so that you don't have to hold them vertically the entire time as you wait to shoot the next stage.  :)

Remember---rifles should have magazine well empty and chamber locked open between stages.  Chamber flags are optional, but strongly preferred.  (Especially if your rifle has a tendency to close the chamber if it gets bounced around in the bag or case.)

See you on Sunday!

I will be there with my .22 AR. Hopefully it ends before 2 because I have football to watch.

Anyone else coming out with their .22 AR?

I keep thinking I'm going to just buy a dedicated .22 AR instead of a conversion kit/upper.  Haven't done it yet, but they look like a ton of fun---and it would be a BLAST to shoot it in a Steel Challenge match.

(If I get to shoot SC in Rimfire Rifle division this year, I'll be using a Ruger 10/22 with a light/short barrel and a red dot, not an AR.)

I love my dedicated upper. I have shot many a S&W 15-22 and it is also a great gun. I just prefer the versatility of a lower I can use on other guns. Less triggers and stocks to buy. The mags are normally cheaper than the 15-22 as well.

jonm:  the match may end before 2, it may not.  It always depends on how many shooters there are and how much help people give working the stages & tearing down.  Given that its cold and its steel, there's not much resetting between shooters, but tearing down after the match is important.  We also need help setting up the match ahead of time.  Setup starts at 7:30am! :)

i came for setup on the man v man steel match last year as well as the one match I went to. I enjoyed the setup and it gives a novice like me a chance to run the course early. I plan on being there early this year

See everyone at the range tomorrow!  Six stages, and you don't have to paste targets---how can you argue with that!  :)

That was-----REALLY REALLY REALLY COLD.

And still, lots of fun.  Good to see the 46 people who showed up to shoot!

For anyone on Team 3 that my of wondered what was wrong with My beretta, Before the match started one of my energy drinks in my box sprung a pinhole leak (too cold?).  It sprayed onto my loade mags.  The gunk the formed with powder and eventually turned my gun into a single action!

I didnt bring anything to clean it and gave up out of frustration.    I went over to the 300 range and tried some factory ammo and it was worse, so my reloads were not to blame.  The gun got so gunked I could not get a bullet to seat in the chamber by the time I left.

Just my bad luck.

Great time shooting with everyone today!  For anyone considering shooting with the Eastern Nebraska Pactical Shooters I can't say enough about how welcoming they are to new shooters.  Anytime is a great time to pick up the sport...

It was nice chatting with everyone. Next time I'll read the manual before setting my alarm.
