Cheap 22LR bolt action options...

so i'm toying with the idea of buying a cheap 22LR bolt action.  i plan on using it for small game rabbits, squirrels and coons, etc.  i will also get the barrel threaded, if it isn't already.  it doesn't have to be new and sure not collectible.  it would be nice it if would shoot decent at 25m.  i already have a semi auto one, so i'm thinking i want bolt action.  what are my options?  don't really want to pay more than $200, if there's nothing out there, i'm fine with that.

Frankly, Robert, cruize the used gun shops for older .22 bolt actions. Be sure the actions work and the bore looks decent. So far most every 'experienced' bolt action I have found works wonderful. They knew how to build 'em back in the day.

A Savage MKII FV is under $200. Heavy barrel, synthetic stock.

Or you can get the FV-SR. It has a Picitinny rail, threaded barrel, and "tactical" bolt know for around $250.

Exactly what I would suggest, if the only downside would be the 10 rnd mag.

Just bought a savage 17hmr today an it shoots great that's another option since 22 ammo is getting hard to come by.

it has to be a 22LR.  thats what the Warlock II is rated for.  its aluminum, not SS.  but i still have a few months before picking it up.

I agree.  A friend of mine picked one of these up and put a suppressor on it.  It's a sweet rifle on it's own merits, but when suppressed and firing sub-sonic rounds, if your visiting you won't even hear it go off.

thanks for the discussion.  so i would assume the Savage FV-SR...

1. the threads are concentric?

2. what scope should i get?

3. will subsonic ammo be stabilized in a 16.5" barrel?  (Gemtech subsonic, Remington subsonic)

4. do i need a spacer for where the suppressor and barrel shoulder meet?

5. who has them in stock in near Lincoln/Omaha?

I have a Savage MkII TRR and a MkII FV-SR. Both shoot far better than me. They also both love CCI Standard Velocity which stays subsonic out of the FV-SR. This is important as I have my can on it, no spacer needed and threads concentric. Sporting a Mueller APV scope on top and it's a ton of fun to shoot. I may swap the stocks on them as I prefer the stock on the TRR though. I mostly got the FV-SR since I wasn't having an easy time finding someone to thread my TRR and it was turning out to be more expensive than I thought it would be.

I had Rod Moeller at Moeller arms order the FV-SR for me, took just a few weeks to get it in but I was in no rush and the price was right. The TRR I found on the clearance rack at Scheels two years ago.

after looking and asking around A LOT, i finally found a Savage MKII FV-SR at the Hasting gun show.  i found a few, but Rob @ Exeter was the cheapest and came down a few dollars.  so i got one.  now time to research some optics...
