Blaming the NRA for all the evils in the world. Now, they are accusing the NRA of "blocking" the Boston Marathon bombing investigation. Or, more outrageously, trying to "guarantee" that the bombers will get away.

At the time, several of the usual totally dense anti-gun politicians and activists wanted to make ammo makers add "taggants" to gun powder. These taggants would allow the police to identify the maker and even the lot of the ammo by the taggant.
It was explained that taggants would alter the powder in unsafe ways and that no military or police organization would allow it in their ammo, and that the unknown and unsafe taggant effects would likely cause explosive accidents.
So, common sense prevailed and the adults dropped the idea.
From that came rumors that the government wanted to put additives in powder or primers that would give ammo an expiration date. Within a set number of years the ammo would simply deactivate itself and become useless.
This would prevent those NRA crazies from stockpiling ammo.
When it was explained that there is simply no possible way to do this, and again, no one military, police or civilian would allow such an unsafe additive, most people understood it was just a rumor.
Like most rumors, it refuses to die.
To sum up, there's no way to put a taggant in firearms ammo because of problems like the taggant and powder separating out and causing massive overloads.
There is no known reliable or safe method of causing ammunition to deactivate itself after a set time.

Then the flood gates opened up and the Extreme Left went into full voice, echoing the meme ... as if their lobbying efforts were pure and without sin. The Gun Owners of America sent me an email a couple days ago in which they warned supporters of the 2A that their web pages would be searched for postings that could be used to make gun owners, 2A and Constitution supporters look like idiots.
Well, they can browse and quote this about the damage lobbyists for Left Wing groups have caused to untold millions of Americans and their liberties:
Tell that to the million babies who die in the womb each year because of their lobbying, some of whom are killed by pulling all but the head out of the birth canal and then being pithed like a laboratory frog, as if a mere two inches was all the difference between a human being and a "product of conception".
Tell it to the millions of American kids who can no longer exercise their 1st Amendment rights to freedom of religion in public schools their parents pay taxes to support, or to Christians who are prosecuted, using zoning ordinances, for holding bible studies in their homes while their neighbors can hold parties that are much bigger, noisier and disruptive, to say nothing about taking all the parking spaces, which is usually the basis of the prosecution, without fear of prosecution.
Tell it to the American patriots who are forced to take down American flags because flying them is "too controversial"!
Tell it to the conservative student groups on campus whose members pay funding , as part of their tuition, for Left Wing groups that preach hate of them, tear down their posters, invade and disrupt their meetings, all of which "causes" the administration to "decertify" and unfund them "for their own safety", forcing them off campus. Free speech on campus you claim? Prove it.
Tell that to millions of American workers who are FORCED to pay union dues out of their wages which go to support Left wing candidates or lose their jobs.
Tell it to the millions of Americans who are prosecuted and imprisoned for exercising rights guaranteed in the Constitution and which their forefathers freely exercised for over two centuries.
