ENPS Multigun Match, July 21st...
« on: July 20, 2013, 08:29:28 AM »
Didn't see anything posted about this, so figured I'd start one.  Just wanted to let everyone know that it would be a good idea to bring slugs tomorrow for at least one of the stages.

Um.  That's going to be a problem----most people DON'T bring slugs, unless it has been specifically announced.   And this late notice means that most people won't have a chance to either hear about it, or do anything about it even if they DO hear about it.

In general, we like to have that info at least two weeks in advance, so we can announce it at the previous match (if possible), post it here, post it on the ENPS website, and post it on the ENPS Facebook page to make sure everyone has a chance to bring what they are going to need.

Just to let you know----that probably isn't going to work for a stage tomorrow.  (But you might keep it in mind for a match later this year!  Slugs are fun, people just need a lot more notice.)

I don't see the problem. Being prepared is part of the game. If someone doesn't have slugs, I'm sure they can borrow or just shoot at it with birdshot and take the miss.

Well, no.

If this were a larger match, that would be one thing.  If we'd told people at the beginning of the year that they need to always have slugs on hand and that we were no longer going to specify matches when slugs or other specialized ammo was needed, that's something too.

As most people don't bring enough slugs to share with everyone else, AND because our policy in the past has always been to inform people when they need ammunition other than birdshot---I'm sure the match staff will talk about it tomorrow if necessary, and it isn't automatically my decision, but I'm just saying that having an alternate stage design might be a good idea.   I might be wrong, you never know.

I note that if people want to have a stage with slugs, 1) feel free to volunteer to design one and build it, and 2) for this year, at least, make sure everyone else knows about it in plenty of time so that everyone knows what will be required of them so they can be prepared.

If you want to talk to the match director about making an announcement that in the future everyone should automatically bring slugs and buckshot just in case, you are certainly welcome to do so.  After all, if that happens I get to stop having to post information about it everywhere.  :)  Since we haven't done that yet, though, and we DO currently normally tell people about specialized ammo needs, however.....

I'm still waiting for a stage that requires incendiary rounds.

On the good side, there will be TWO in November, so you can do it twice...  :)

Yep, ENPS always puts on a very good match.  If anyone has never tried any kind of action shooting I really encourage you to check it out.  Even if you're not into competition you will learn a lot about how your equipment (and you) work under pressure.  They are really good at accommodating new shooters, so even though it may seem a little intimidating at first as long as you just take it easy and concentrate on being safe you'll have a blast.
