It took him four hours to finally take measures into  his own hands and shoot the perp.   I wonder why?   First opportunity to grab his gun?

According to Wednesday's World Herald, after the wife told the 911 operator that her husband had shot the intruder, the operator broadcast to "All units responding. The subject has been shot by the homeowner." Smart operator. That broadcast warned responding LEOs that they should be prepared to find an armed person at the crime scene who was the victim rather than the criminal.

I can't help but compare this to what happened to the victim of a car jacking in Council Bluffs a few years ago. The victim was shot by CB police after he grabbed the car jacker's gun and it fired during the struggle. I don't know whether the teenager who reported the crime to 911 failed to explain that there were hostages involved, the 911 dispatcher failed to pass that information on to the responding officers, or the latter ignored the information and jumped to conclusions when they saw a gun. To add insult to injury, CB refused to pay the victim's medical bills while acknowledging that their police shot the wrong person.
