Tactical Medicine for Law Enforcement.

Our Tactical Medicine for Law Enforcement Course combines both live-fire and tactical medicine exercises in one dynamic 10 hour class. Learn the fundamentals of tactical medicine including the use of a basic trauma kit, emergency management of airway, hemorrhage, chest trauma, and other life-threatening injuries. Fight to the wounded, fight while wounded, perform man down rescue tactics under fire and engage in rapid patient assessment and treatment while under duress.

88 Tactical TacMed for Law Enforcement Course objectives
At the end of this course you will be able to:
- Effectively use commercial tourniquets, combination bandages and hemostatic agents to control lethal bleeding from injuries you, or others, have suffered.
- Effectively treat penetrating trauma to the torso. Recognize and address tension pneumothorax.
- Draw, conduct immediate action, remedial action, reload, and engage a threat with your sidearm while only using your primary or support hand.
- Self extract to cover, engage a threat then self apply a tourniquet, remaining in the fight until help arrives.
- Quickly and effectively move casualties to cover. Perform rapid casualty assessments finding and treating any life threatening injuries, keeping the casualty alive until help arrives.

Tactical Medicine lecture covering the following;
Mental Preparation
Hemorrhage Control Emergency Compression Dressing (Israeli Battle Dressing, NAR Bandage, Olaes Bandage) Tourniquet (SOFT-T, CAT, improvised windlass)
Packing Wounds
Use of hemostatic agents
Tension Pneumothorax
Sucking Chest Wound
Airway support

Each student will get plenty of hands on practice applying various bandages, tourniquets and packing wounds in the classroom. Practice medical equipment will be provided by 88 Tactical for all classroom and range exercises.

Students may bring and practice with their own issued med kits if they choose.

Live-fire portion of course
Advanced one hand shooting/weapon manipulations
  Primary and support hand only weapon presentation
  Primary and support hand only reloading
  Primary and support hand only weapon malfunction drills

Fighting from the ground
  Shooting from prone, supine and lateral recumbent positions

Self assessment, treatment of life threatening bleeding and one hand tourniquet application

Single and multiple Officer rescue tactics under fire

Rapid patient assessment and treatment while under duress

Equipment Requirements
Eye and ear protection
Semi-auto pistol. Note: Your pistols rear sight must have a “ledge” so that the slide can be manipulated on your belt, holster or pocket.
Two to three magazines
Serviceable holster and magazine carry pouches
Note: NO IWB HOLSTERS ALLOWED
400 rounds of factory new practice ammunition (no handloads)
Dress and head wear as weather dictates
Sack lunch and water

This one is Law Enforcement only.

The LEO class is a combination of our TacMed Level 1 with some of the TacMed Level 2 range drills added in. You can attend our Level 1 and 2 and get the exact same info and do the exact same range drills. Additionally you will get more topics/skills covered in the classroom and double the reps on the range by attending the two levels separately.

The next Level 1 is scheduled for March 30th, Level 2 is April 19th.

when i went through paramedic school during clinicals with the fire department one of the medics there was on the local swat as their medic (not in omaha), if i would have stayed working at a paramedic that would have been something i would have tried to do as well.

i might suggest a class similar to PHTLS, what a blast that class was, emergency cric's, our instrcutor brought in a car we rolled it over and had people getting in, extracting them etc.
intubation obstacle courses and more.

this was the most fun training i ever went trough, although i guess a lot of that stuff wouldn't need to be taught to us normal off the streets guys now..... so it would have to be "dumbed down" a little bit

We just had our PHTLS recert last week. And your right, it is a very fun class. Basically our TacMed 1 and 2 are a combination of PHTLS (pre hospital trauma life support) and TCCC (tactical combat casualty care) after taking out the stuff that wont apply to the regular guy/gal on the street and adding some advanced shooting drills.

They are recommendations for the better integration of LE and EMS at scenes that involve violence. Getting the cops the training and equipment they need to immediately treat life threatening bleeding, and getting EMS the equipment and training they need to get them into the "warm" zones faster to begin victim evacuation, advanced assessments, treatment and transport.

These changes will represent a major shift in mindset for many pre hospital care providers. But we must evolve as the threat has evolved if we are really going to make a difference and give victims of these types of crimes the best chance for survival.
