Old pickup -- need advice - sell or not
« on: June 17, 2014, 07:29:53 PM »
I have this old 1984 or 86 S-10 pickup.  No muffler or tail pipe.  Headliner falling down.  A little rust.  Pretty new tires.  85,000 miles. Runs good. 4 Cylinder. Long box. Needs a rear bumper. A/C needs Freon or compressor, I don't know which, it doesn't work. Books at about $1300 (really, although I can't guess why).

I drive it about 30 miles a year, maybe.  Otherwise it sits in the shed.

My quandary is:  Do I fix it up and keep it?  Do I fix it up and sell it?  Do I sell it as is?

I figure I could MAYBE get about $800 tops for it as is if I am lucky.

Do you have another pickup?  If not, keep it.  Everyone needs a pickup.

if you only use it 30 miles a year. I don't know if the plates and insurance is worth it. maybe sell it and get a trailer.

I'm with Rob and shooter. For 30 miles a year I could bum a pickup from a friend pay them gas and a case of beer and still be less then license and insurance. I'm sure a 15 year-old would give you 500-600 easy.

This ^, but only if it's 4 wheel drive. If it's 2 wheel drive, sell it and get another beater that's 4 wheel drive.

Thanks for the advice.  My thought was to sell and buy a trailer.

Looks like most thoughts run along the same line.

I have a 14 yr old that is looking for this kind of vehicle, and $500 doesn't seem to unreasonable.  :)

It's the drive to meet that would be the bummer part.

The drive home would be annoying to with no muffler

Robs idea sounds fun also.... but If we want to do that I think I can found something in worse shape to blow up.

FarmerRick isn't on A list, he's at the top 10 of every list 'they' got. The NSA knows more about his life than he does.
