The take away - you will be going to jail if an incident occurs after you have been warned to get rid of your guns.

It wasn't about getting rid of his guns.  It was about keeping the older boy away from weapons of any kind.  Knives, guns, you name. it.

He could have just locked them away.  But instead chose to leave a loaded gun in an unsecured area where the known violent and unpredictable young man could access them.

This is a tragic but very predictable outcome to a long series of issues with this child / family.

Locking the stuff up would of been key here, even if the kid didn't have violent tendency. Very sad situation. Some people need there parent cards ripped up.

I just hope this kid gets the help he obviously needs, don't need another Adam Lanza.

Either way, everyone or their stuff gets locked up.  Bad choices made here

O the kid neighbors have never seen, that shot 26 people so completely, no evac was needed or hospitals needed?   The kid the medical examiner said shot people with a long gun, but helicopters showed never got taken out of the car?    No, we don't need any more of that.

Yes, it is certainly useful to make arguments based on statements that are untrue.

(For obvious examples:  the gun in the car wasn't an AR, the AR was recovered from inside the building.  And yes, when children are shot multiple times at close range with a rifle, you tend to not need many ambulances.)

....never mind.

Readers, please check your facts before activating your tinfoil hats and engaging.

Now you made me feel bad.  Tell you how I'll make it up to you.  You come see me on behalf of the board for NFOA.  I'll have a check made out to NFOA for $1,000.  If you and I can see eye to eye on anything, I hand you the check.  If not, I'll cross off NFOA and put NRA on the check.  You stop by anytime your coffers feel a little thin.   Or maybe you would rather just poke fun at members rather than engage in something constructive.  Your call.

I'm not a member of the board of the NFOA, Gary.  I speak only for myself.  (You can see that from my avatar that says "NFOA Full Member" instead of "NFOA Board Member" or anything like that.)  As such, they aren't "my coffers" any more than they are "your coffers."

I'm pretty sure we agree on some things.  For example, I'm thinking we both would agree that shooting is fun.  (Feel free to send that check to the NFOA now, and I didn't even have to drive down to Lincoln.  Chris Zeeb is the treasurer, and when I next talk to him, I'll ask him if you've done what you said you'd do.)

As always, I invite everyone to show up to a shooting match at the Eastern Nebraska Gun Club--we've got a USPSA match on October 5th, and a Steel Challenge match on October 19th.

Steel Challenge is normally a great way for some to start shooting competitions----it is all about gunhandling and marksmanship.  No stage planning, no movement, just all about drawing and getting accurate shots on target.  Lots of fun!

So---there you go, Gary.  Not only do we agree on something, but here I am inviting you to come out to shoot.
